Hand Feed Tangs?

Does anybody else feed their tangs nori by hand? My nori clip has been failing lately and falling down on some corals that do not apprecieate it very much. Last night my fish took a big chunk of nori off the clip which ended up floating around in my tank , it ended up falling to the sand bed. I thought I would try to not waste the nori and figured I would hold it in the area where they usually feed and my Kole started eating the nori out of my hand. My Naso was very reluctant to eat but he came up and got some good bites out of the nori. Tonight I figured I would try to hand feed and both of them came up right away and tore the nori to shreds within a minute. Everybody says that fish are not real pets, but when they eat out of your hand it is kind of cool. I have had freshwater fish (Discus) eat from my hand along with cleaner shrimp clean my hand. First time having a tang eat out of my hand. Anybody else do this, is this common?

I can't get my hand out fast enough, so basically my hippo tang eats out of my hand. I still put it on a clip cause I don't feel like standing there all day for him to eat, but if I just held it there he would still eat it. I posted in another forum once how one time I was late in putting the nori in and all the fish started swarming. I pointed at my hippo tang to tell him to back off, and he bit me. I think he was just in a feeding frenzy though.

Yeah, they are friendly creatures. I ordered 4 new nori clips tonight to solve the problem as they only last about a month before the suction gives way. They are on the way but I am thinking that I will continue feeding by hand to connect with my pets.

I hear alot of people hand feeding their fish, espically tangs. When i feed flakes by hands if i don't get them off my fingers fast enough my chromis and hippo tang will help me out..

I can fed mine by hand but don't want to stand there holding seaweed while they eat.

I use a mag float to clip the nori. I feel the regular clips are very obtrusive looking and the suction cups are unreliable.

Priscilla, my naso tang, eats out of my hand. She even lets me pet her.

I just moved her from a 135g tank to a 240g tank and I moved her by picking her up with my hands. She didn't even think of trying to slice me.

FYI you can super glue your Veggie clip suction cups to a Mag float and then you wont have to worry about the suction cup coming off and you almost dont even get a wet hand when you have to retrieve it. Just a suggestion I just undo the clip from the suction cup, clean the glass and put the fresh clip back on with more nori. Thats a tip form another RC memeber that worked for me.

They actually make these clips that are magnetic. The only problem is that the magnets aren't strong enough for my glass/tang. So sometimes I just use half the magfloat and the other half of the magnetic clip thingy, but really most of the time I struggle with the suction cup ones. I must have about 15 of them by now.

I have read about using the mag float solution. Just never really had too much of a problem with the clips before since I always had a back up when they failed. I bought 3 clips when I first got my Kole and they have lasted about 5 months. I have a mag float so I will give it a shot when the new clips come in.
