Hand held TDS meter calibration??

My handheld tds meter is all of a sudden showing numbers in the display when dry. Its one I bought from brs and says HM digital, T.D.S. & Temp.. It also has a screw in the back for calibration. It says calibrate with NaCI. I put new batteris in yesterday with no luck and turned the scew a little and the best i can get is 4 on the display when dry. This meter is 6 months old. Any ideas out there?
