Went to a few stores looking at what specials not planning purchasing anything. Then I saw this beautiful gem in the corner of a tank. They sold it to me as a purple gig but unless I'm color blind it's 100% blue in color. I guess I'll find out with time.

+1. Very risky indeed. I had a sick blue haddoni nearly wipe out all of my gigs, hads and even mags -- weeks of repeated treatment and I was able to save most (not all) of them. Plenty of other horror stories out there. I for one will never add a new nem (of any species) before a minimum 2 week QT.

I understand the concern from both of you. I'm not going to pretend that it's not risky because I know it is without a doubt. But all my QT tanks are being used for fish right now. It's a very big risk indeed but because of selfish reasons I didn't want to pass up the deal on this.

I would rather pass on a deal than put a fresh gig straight into a system with other anemones - the chances of the new one being sick is at least 75% according to my experience.

Yup. And by the looks of this one, I'd bump that up to a solid 90%. Deal or no deal, think of all the money in healthy nems that is in jeopardy -- or even if they live, the cost of antibiotics, salt for water changes, etc.

I based the 75% on my own experiences: 3 out of 4 of my gigs needed treatment and one didn't make it despite 2 treatments.
I suspect it is actually much higher if you base it on all gigs that arrive in the US and not just on a handful of cherry picked specimen.

At a minimum I would do a 4 week observation period in a QT before placing it in a system with other gigs.

You all got me paranoid I went and purchased another at tank the other day and pulled the blue gig out and it's been in qt for a few days now. The haddoni and other gig look to still be just fine. I'll probably keep the gig in qt until I get my new tank up and running since it'll be much easier to remove from at than my DT.

If the anemone looks like this during the day with lights on and then fully inflated/extended with them off, should I start cipro?

That's what I'm used to seeing as well but I wasn't sure if it something concerning. Maybe lights are too strong but I doubt it.

I think you did the right thing by pulling him and keeping him Qt'd. Kudos to you, I hope everything goes well as he looks right now, you are well on your way.
