Happy lack of bugs from swap!

I just wanted to say that the acro and other corals that I bought from the swap were fortunately bug/FW/nudi/etc free! They opened up nicely as soon as they were brought home, and everything looks great.

I was wondering if anyone in the club did have any problems with corals, other than bleaching or other stress related issues?

No problem here.....Bought 2 clams (ty) and a few zoos from
(Johnny Morgan) eveything looks great, Havent taking any pictures of my zoos yet but here's one of my new clams

Glad everything is doing well. No bleaching or any pest from the 20plus frags we got at the frag swap. :) JOHNNY

No problems here with any of the 10-11 corals we bought. No bleaching, no damage, nothing. Everything went through an overnight interceptor dip, and polyps were out within minutes of being placed in the tank.

As far as selling, I was a little surprised that not a single person asked about red bugs, flat worms, etc. Not that our tank has any, but I thought more people would be concened about them. Plenty of questions about light and flow, but nothing about bugs.

I am not surprised that no one asked. There are two reasons to not ask.

1. We all have a love for the hobby and feel that the person selling would be responsible and not spread the bad stuff. I mean I assume that if you brought it there you have in your mind that you ain't got bugs to spread.

2. Any person that is so inconsiderate to have a bug issue and sell there anyway is also the type of person to lie about it.

bought a large pink/orange plate coral from Morgan & Johney and it is looking great! wish I would have bought more, but we decided to go check out big-als, and then planed on coming back when it was less crouded, but never made it back. Next time though I will be coming home with alot more.

I believe that the only acro that I bought was an A. Tenius or Undata or something and that it was either from ufchristyb, or from the person who shared their table. It's doing great so far too.

If it was an acro in a deli container, it was an Acropora tenius from me and Christy. Which color did you get?

The undata, if I'm not mistaken, is a plating montipora species.

This is my view of this, As the owner of my reef tank and the only person that will loose if the corals die, I have made my self responsible for my corals and therefor I have to make sure that everything going in the tank is bug free or at least make an attempt to ensure nothing comes in the new corals I put in my tank.
With that said, I dip everything before I place in the tank and I examin everything with a magnifying glass.
I can not make the LFS or other hobiest responsible for my stuff specilly since in most of the cases some of this bugs are literally invisible to the human eye and they truly don't know they have them.

I wholeheartly agree with you Rogger. Ultimately, you want to make sure yourself by taking the right measures. JOHNNY

Yes, it was a A. Tenius. It looks deep green right now in my nano.

My responsible reefkeeping claim of the day is that after acclimating the acro to the tank's water, I took it out and inspected it in the light with a jeweler's loupe (small magnifying lens), then put it in the nano to see how it goes for 4 weeks. If it's doing well after 4 weeks, I'll acclimate it to the big tank and put it in with the rest of the acros :)

Thanks again to Jeff and Christy

You're welcome!

Also, just to put you at ease, we're crazy QT'ers too, so our tank is pretty clean. All of our corals are iodine dipped, treated with Flatworm Exit and Interceptor, and inspected by magnifying glass before they go into our display tank, so frags should be clean as well.
