Hardiest anthias??

What is the hardiest of the Anthias?? Lyretails? Disbars??

I have\had a school (5) of Disbars and they are one by one dying off...I got 5 of them in November and all was fine until recently. My paremeters are all fine and nothing has changed in tank although my Flame angel sometimes harresses them.
This is my second school of them..first one I sarted about 4-5 years ago which was Disbars as well..I still have two from that school
So I want to try another school..I am thinking Lyretails but not sure. I do love Bartletts as well.

Bartletts are pretty hardy, but are a little more aggressive than some of the others, but I have found squami and dispar anthias to be quite hardy as well.

I'd recommend Bartletts and squas.

Hutchi are another hardier species I have kept.

Bartletts are hardy but very aggressive as a group. Japanese Sacura is very hardy but it rare.

You really can't go wrong with lyretails. Any anthias not handled properly prior to getting to the LFS can be delicate (dispar, for example, are like this).

Dispar are pretty hardy, I would look for a reasons that those dying off. Whether harrassment, or not feeding.

If they were poorly handled during collection process, chances are the effects would have happened immediately.

Are they feeding well? Are they feeding heavily? After 6 months are the fish fat full and healthy looking that are dying.

What foods and or mix of food are you using that they are accepting.


Not trying to run out 20 questions of "What Have you Done Wrong?" And since you have kept them for years, you know what it takes to keep them happy.

So what is different with this group that they aren't doing as well.

bartletts/bicolor, squamm, lyretail, evansi/fatheads aka sunburst, dispar/ignitius, purple queen/tuka/ventralis in that order.

Squam/lyretail sometimes because of poor handling or cyanide
evansi because of frequent feeding
dispar/ignitius because of uronema
purple queen/tuka because of feeding issues
ventralis because of deepwater decompression issues

(i had experience with a lot of different types anthias, but can't think of them all right now)

I feed twice a day with varying foods...Nutremar, Cyclopeez, various frozen mixtures and flake although the newest ones would not eat flake so always some sort of frozen. All of my fish are fat and healthy. I have been on same feeding schedule for years.
I do think that maybe the Flame angel is harrassing them. I am working to remove him from tank.
They seem to be eating OK.

I'd say lyretails.
bartletts are cool but they often become aggressive and most if not all will probably turn male, which becomes a problem.
My dispars were much more sensitive and also more finicky.

i have found my bartletts to be very hardy... no issues even with being fed 1x per day...

i tried lyretails once and it didnt work out.. female turning male issues.
have had a trio of dispars now for 7 months eat flakes, but not out as much as i would like. not sure why. they hover in a certain rock area ..only guess is that my clowns BTA is close by and they dont want to move to the other side of the tank. its only a 75.
imo the're probably the least colorful of the anthias but still nice.
not much experience but its something.
