So I got home with a tiny frag of red planet Acropora last night, and I found a good spot for it. I placed the frag loosely on the rock like I normally do, and within a few seconds, my Harlequin tusk comes over and flips it with his nose under the rock. This is not usual behavior, he does flip rocks looking for food, and for some reason does this more often with anything new in the tank.
So I moved everything around to retrieve my frag, and I mounted it with 2 part epoxy. Again, within seconds, my Harlequin tusk comes over and tries flipping it. The expoxy held for a second, but then he bit the whole frag (like he was going to swallow it), tore it off, and hid it under a rock in the farthest place he could get.
I left a small rock the same size as the frag in the place I wanted my red planet, but the tuskfish shows no interest. I mounted the frag (sans epoxy) in a tight crevis in another rock where it will be easier to retrieve if it falls.
Any ideas why he is doing this?
