Harlequin Tusk Reef or No

I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with keeping a harlequin tusk in a reef tank. I've always wanted one but haven't risked it yet.

^^ after doing research it appears you are correct...

I just had an encounter with a lFS the other day where they lost a tusk and their reason was "he would not burry at night" so i was just going off hearsay i guess. That encounter sparked the question.

If this was the explanation they gave you I would suggest NOT buying fish from them. They clearly need to go and read some literature. :reading:

"They" are THE highest regarded LFS in the area. Period. "They" have been the go to in the community for quite awhile, and all of the local reefers shop there and only there.

But i agree. I stop in mostly to look, and occasional snag a coral frag.

I would purchase off the net. The are "ignorant" to say the least, no matter who says they shop there.

I have an HT in my reef now. They do NOT bury. The only thing you should be concerned about is your CUC. You'll have to replenish every once in a while. Also Im not sure if it was the HT or my niger trigger or both but I had four cleaner shrimp in the tank, now I have zero.

It really just depends if your willing to take the hits on your snails and crabs,I for one made the decision to have to add more a couple times a year so I could keep the fish I wanted.

Mine has been a model citizen and is actually a bit shy. Crabs and shrimp may not last long, but my snails are fine.

On the snails, is it just smaller snails, or are even large turbos on the menu?

Ive gotta huge turbo in my tank that has been with me for a while but as far as the others go I'm not sure as Ive got a 6-7" trigger in my tank as well that likes to snack on CUC as too. Ive never actually seen the HT munch on them but Ive seen him circling them like a shark acting highly suspicious. lolz

+1... I have considered a Harlequin Tusk, a 'must have' fish for my tanks since 1973...
