Has anyone cured their tank of Monti eating nudibranchs?

I've got em bad. I have at least 10 different Monti species and obviously don't want to lose them. I have researched. I am just curious if any of you have won this battle, and how you did it.

I personally haven't dealt with the Monti species but I have dealt with the zoa eating nudis and they were a pest! I didn't have them bad but I did have them non the less. my only treatment that I used was when ever I seen a colony with a nudi on it, I would pull it and Lugols Dip it. after a month or so individually dipping peices here and there, I was bored one day so i pulled all my rock and corals, which isn't much 37g tank (55lbs rock) 20/30 different corals. and I dipped everything to the max recommendations on the Lugols directions. Ever since, never seen anything!

I read a article the other day where someone is using FWE as a drip on zoo nudis and having good luck with no ill effects. The article was in a reef hobbyist magazine I got from GWA, might give it a shot.

Potassium permanganate will kill cyanobacteria, maybe dyno's and oxidize waste.

PraziPro works very well. Lugols is good to kill the adults or stun them.

I advise treat outside of the tank in a bucket get a scaple and magnifiying glass and scrape the eggs off, the medication doesn't always get them. You might have to repeat a couple times, they are pretty hardy. Killing the egss is the key.

Hey folks, just FYI......Last night I used KMnO. It appears to have worked very well. I basted the nudi and eggs off very easy after 1 hour. Coral coloration appears normal after treatment. I will report on the appearance of corals, 24 hrs after treatment.

After a 2hr dose of KMnO, at 100mg/liter all corals appear the same. I collected 143 nudibranchs from the bottom of the containers. I treated 30 Montis, 1 Anacropora, and 5 Acros. Coral coloration appears unaffected. The eggs and nudis were removed with very little effort via a turkey baster. Many of the nudis moved or fell off the frags.

Immediately after the treatment; coral coloration appears the same.
24 hrs; coral coloration appears the same. Coral polyps fully extended.
72 hrs; coral coloration appears the same. Coral polyps fully extended.

Any update on this Phyto?

I've been doing weekly dips in TMPCC and QTing to try and rid them. After 3 weeks of dips and inspections i haven't seen one in about 8 days and no damage in over 2 weeks. Tonight will be the 4th dip.

I picked up some potassium permanganate over the weekend and plan to use it as a final punch to finish them off. I plan to use .05g in 1 liter of water. Does this dosage sound correct?

Thanks!

But that didn't kill them all, you will always have them present in your tank. The wrasse can't get every single one and the eggs.

I don't want to give them to others when i trade/sell corals.

It has been a little over a month. I have not seen anymore nudis. I have not seen any affected areas that might be getting eaten. The colors are still great. I did not lose a single coral from the treatment.
I dosed in many separate containers. I sat with them and stirred them occcasionally. A tank dose would scare me. I am keeping a close eye on the corals. I have not anticipated complete erradication, yet. Animals tend to be driven to survive in some way. I would say that my corals look 100% better than they did one month ago. I can find no signs of nudis.
If they do come back, I will use KMnO and modify the concentration and duration of the treatment.

Thanks for the update. I've gone thru 4 weeks or QT and weekly dips in TMPCC. Next week will be the final dip using KMnO.

It has been about 5 weeks now. All the corals that were treated are currently in another tank. I am going to put an aggresive growing digitata in the infected tank. We'll see what happens.

Let us know how it fares!

My display has been void of montis since 3/1/08. I've done 6 weekly dips in TMPCC. The last dip was 4/8 and i found no nudis or eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'll dip them in the KMnO4 on the last dip before returning to the display.
