has anyone ever had NON REEF SAFE clowns?

I've had several pairs of true percs over the years, and never had this problem ...

Over the past few weeks, I noticed that one of my acans would deflate, but by morning, things would be normal again. Slowly, I noticed more and more acans would deflate in the evening (this is when tank lights have been on for 5-6 hours now) but by morning, things look normal again. Then I caught them. Both my female snowcasso and my male onxy C-quest biting and attacking the heck out of the acans! They were ripping out tissue, and I could see the torn off flesh floating in the water! They've been doing this for a couple days now, in fact, they've been so rough that they're knocking them over.

Has anyone had this happen to them?? I've heard of maroons being rough on anemones, even moving rock, but I've never heard of clowns attacking coral.

Tank is 18 gallons, no host anemone, although they like to hang by my wellsophyllia, and are constantly biting the rock nearby (the typical pre-spawning behavior). Tank has been set up for 10 months. They are HEAVILY fed 2 times a day ... could this all just equate to pre-spawning behavior? Experts please chime in!

Thanks!

Yes it sounds like it might be pre-spawning behavior. Are those Acans nearby? They're probably offended by them for some strange reason and feel threatened by them. Try moving the Acans somewhere further away perhaps? My clowns which are hosting Duncans, have bullied nearby corals, but nothing too serious.

Hmm...the tank is 24 inches long, but the acans are on the other side of the tank, which is pretty far from their "hosting" wellsophyllia area and their designated rock spot which they clean and peck.

IMO, 18 gallons is too small for a hosting anemone, but thanks for the suggestions and comments.

I had a pair of maroons almost killed their LTA. They where ripping tentacles off daily. I finally had to remove the anemone from the tank. It has recovered with no clowns. They now have been hosting a 16" RBTA with no problems for many months. They rarely go more than a few inches from their BTA.

My maroon killed all my corals. She was very aggressive and didn't have an anemone.

I had a pair of GSM's that would constantly peel out on the sandbed throwing sand all over corals and if there was as coral placed..even epoxy'd down...she would knock it down or kill it trying. I wouldn't recommend anyone having maroons unless you have a very large tank
