Has anyone here cut the teeth in their overflow box?

Not sure if this is what your asking but-I snipped the top lip off the overflows on my megaflow-helped lower the water level in the tank and skims the surface better.

Cutting the top lip lowered the water level???

I need to lower the water about 1/2". I figured I had to cut the slats lower.

In my case it did lower the water level-I didn't have to notch mine down any further, that did the trick for me. I wish I would have had the drain bulkheads drilled larger when I bought the tank!

I did both on my megaflow. First I took a dremil and lowered all the teeth. Then, I realized that the slits don't really affect the water height, at least not like I needed to lower it. It is actually the piece of plastic behind it that affects the level. I only ended up cutting the teeth on one side, but that side defiantly drains faster. Although my cutting of the back piece of plastic was anything but accurate and even between the two sides so that could be accounting for the difference.

see's right...its the inside baffle that controls the water level and not the teeth....shaving it down 1/2" makes a huge diff with oceanic tanks cause of the glass brace u lose 1/2" volume in tank...make sure ur sump can handle the xtra h20
