Hi all
I'm searching for sand for a new setup and I came across this sand on ebay. Just wondering if anyone is currently using this sand or those might have any input good or bad. SNOW-WHITE-ARAGONITE-CRYSTAL-REEF-AQUARIUM-LIVE-REEF-SAND.

Appreciate your feedback!

Its an oolitic sand and the particals are very small which leads to sand getting kicked up all the time. You can go with this sand but keep in mind you will not be able to have high flow without blowing the sand around constantly.

The average grain size for oolitic sand is 0.5mm what you really want is a grain size in the 2-3mm range. That may not seem like much of a difference but it makes all the difference in the world when your keeping flow needy corals.

A great sand with perfect grain size is carib sea special grade reef floor sand.http://smile.amazon.com/Carib-Sea-ACS00050-Aragonite-Aquarium/dp/B00025YRQQ/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428307201&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=carib+sea+specail+grade
Disregard the picture that is an extreme close up shot of the sand the average grain size for this sand is 2mm

You can see the picture in my avatar thats the special grade. It looks crystal white to me...

+1, for a fish only system where your water flow would only need to be around 20 times your DT size it might work, although even then it is likely to get blown around more than you would want, but for a reef tank where higher flow is necessary I think you will be unhappy with it as it will get blown all over the tank.

It's awful stuff. I used it, then spent the next two years slowly getting it out of my tank and replacing it with aragonite fine gravel.

Kool, I'm not getting it thanks for these forums. But mostly for those that had hands on using it. Sorry Sk8r that you had to go through a bad experience, but a big thanks for sharing.
Whosurcaddie thanks for the info, looks like the sand you mention is dry, correct.
This is for a new tank setup. And I'm looking for quick cycle!

Dr.Tims one and only will speed up your cycle. Live sand won't make a difference in the speed of your cycle there is always die off regardless of claims to the contrary. It's a waste of money IMO. Remember patience is key in this hobby. Good luck.
