Has anyone used the "Live Pukani" from Premium Aquatics?

I noticed that Premium Aquatics offers Pukani that they throw into their large curing tanks so it gets seeded with goodies. I have always been a fan of PA's regular live rock, so this piqued my interest.

I have 60lbs of Dry Pukani and I'm looking to seed it. Would be really nice to have "live Pukani" to go with it so the look remains consistent. Figured I'd pick up 25lbs or so and probably end up with close to 50/50 in my tank.

Has anyone ever used this and could you tell me a bit about what it's like? For example, does it get seeded well in the sense that it picks up "goodies" from the regular live rock like feather dusters, sponges and other interesting plants or animals? Or is it basically just wet rock with bacteria on it?

I do not know about PA's live Pukani, but you can order live Pukani from Tampa Bay Saltwater and they ship it in water and it arrives alive.

TBS does not advertise that anywhere and it's not on their price sheet. Where did you see that? I think you may have misread their price sheet because they put Pukani under live rock but it clearly says it's dry.

Yep, TBS only has Dry Pukani rock and it is listed under Live Rock but says Dry.

Even their page on Pukani says it's dry

Pukani Dry Rock

TBS Pukani Dry Aquarium Rock is the lightest and most porous dry rock in the industry, full of holes that become nice homes and passage ways for your tank's inhabitants.

Low initial cost on premium rock - Pound for pound it is lower cost as it is dry rock and does not have to be shipped underwater. It can be shipped via standard UPS/FEDEX ground which saves on shipping.

This rock does come out of the ocean and may have some dead material on it such as sponges or other critters. Soaking or curing the rock before use in an established aquarium is recommended.

Dry Pukani live rock is not available for shipment to Canada or internationally due to high permit fees.

Sold by the pound. Pukani is available in a wide variety of sizes.

TBS Pukani Dry Live Rock is generally less than 20" in diameter. Sold by the pound with no minimum order. TBS Pukani Large 20+ inches Dry Live Rock is generally 20" or more in diameter. Sold by the pound with a minimum order of 30 lbs.

+1. If you want actual "Live Pukani" you want TBS. I purchased a 60lb single piece of the extra large from Richard and it was absolutely covered in life! I'm not talking a little bit of coralline algae, there was 4 different types of sponge, sea squirts, clams, feather dusters, hermit crabs, 2 pistol shrimp, naussarius snails, and some small crabs... Thats "Live rock"

This isn't correct, tell him you want the extra large pukani or pukani "live", I promise you he has it. Again see my above post. 60lb single piece of pukani. He didn't buy all of that rock to sell to people dry, its sitting out on his plot with the rest of the rock he seeds :fish1:

So basically TBS has a secret menu like In N Out? Lol.

I'll have a double double Pukani animal style!

Thank you for this info. He doesn't advertise that at all so I'll be sure to call him and get some.
