I'm in the navy and i'm transferring, so the tank has to come down. My question is about live rock, i really like the shapes and sizes i have. whats the best method for drying it out so that i can use it again at my new station?
You may be in a bit of a bind being that you're in Hawaii....that said....if you are able to move dry dead rock off island you can just throw it out in the backyard on some tarps and let it dry in the sun. Shouldn't take long out there with that sun.
You can always scrub it before you put it back into a tank to remove some of the residual organics, as well. +1 to the tarp idea...the sun will dry it out in no time. Sorry to hear you have to tear it down...no one likes having to do that.
Yep - The trick will be to ensure nothing is still alive when you attempt to get it off the island, HI doesn't like letting people leave with anything but pineapples and leis bought at the airport.
BTW, I wouldn't worry about leaving too much junk in the rocks, it will only help support the cycle when it's time to re-cure them.
