Have you seen the new tank at the Critter?

They're starting a new frag tank, and it's super sharp!
The water overflows on the outer sides and the water collects and returns (to the sump) from outside the main display.

The only thing I wonder about is the algae growing on the inside and outside. I'd bet it will require some serious upkeep with the magnet cleaners....not to mention it's acrylic.

cool, yea I heard about this on this board. Someone said they ordered a couple more of the LED solar lights for the future frag tank. Can't wait to see what it's all about.

Its one of the zero edge aquariums. There super expensive but look really good.

It's a little expensive. It does comes complete with a stand, sump and all the plumbing. A 24x24x10 is $1450 at Tropical Fish Store. A 36x36x10 is $2175.

Also noticed the new Oceanic 178g with Starphire glass at the Critter. It seems VERY large for only a 178g. It's $2000 but very nice.

cant wait to check this stuff out. I think last week when I was there I seen a ad about the zero edge tanks. I'll have to swing in there tomorrow.

I saw it and am impressed with the OUTER appearance. However, there is really no good way to see what is actually inside the tan. They hype is all in the outer appearance.

Not only will you have to scrape coralline from the inside...but now from the outside as well. And how in the heck will you keep snails in? And jumper fish will be impossible to contain.

alas... yes its cool other than not being practical.

i saw it last night. i think it will be a hit with all the rappers on mtv cribs but other than that i dont see it being worth anything. among the algae issues as stated above what happens if you were to spray air fresher or vaccum youre house. all sorts of nasties would be in the water very quicklike :) also im sure itd be quite a hassle pulling EVERY one of youre exploring snails out of the sump daily from cruisng over the edges and making their way down. a very cool idea, just not feasible for anything other than a millionaires swimming pool or an expensive modern birdbath IMO :) <~~~steve

I'd agree about the visability issue. Inevitably, flowing water is going to have some ripples in it and that tank definitely has those on all the sides. You can have a very nice look down from the top as long as nothing is disturbing the surface much (agreed... great clam tank) it but isn't nearly as clear as the pictures make it look. Also, it's hard to tell exactly how loud it is in a noisy store, but the thing sounded like a water fall to me.

In any case, I'm glad to see that they are going to start doing some frags and I think the tank will be great for that (no fish and snails to get into overflows and top down look will give a good idea of the brightest colors the corals can offer). And, if I ever end up on cribs or lifestyles of the rich and famous, I'll be sure to have one on display... in addition to having a reef in my glass sided swimming pool.

I thought it looked pretty cool myself. I overlooked the part that mentioned the water overflows from the top. I was confused about how it would mess up view til I seen it. I still think it looks pretty cool and the view in my opinion doesnt look all that bad. I bet it will help once a light is put over it. I like it...

Oh, and I'm not knockin' AC or anything now so don't take it this way. I like AC and everyone is always good to me, both fish and reptiles. But while I was at AC today, I noticed what looked like a zoa eating nudi in there coral tank. The section closest to the cichlid tank. It wasn't on the zoas, but crawlin' on the wall next to some zoas. I'm just givin' a warnin' out to anyone who picks anything up...just in case. I know thats a risk anywhere when buying corals, but at least I know, I did see one. It's always stressed to dip/QT. It looked like the brown one pictured on zoaid.com

Steve, next time call it to their attention. Save some unfortunate soul a lot of headache.

I stopped by today, and they were having issues with getting the tank level. Obviously, if it's not perfectly level, the water doesn't flow evenly.

I saw those aquariums at the MACNA/IMAC conferences-neat effect. They looked good, but ORA put a bunch of fish in one and several of them jumped out overnight! Also, evaporation has got to be bad with those. Very nice effect though, and they had them perfecly level and balanced with flow (and no surface disturbance), so the viewing windows weren't distorted too much. Someone needs to snap a picture! It would be an interesting clam tank with a pendant halide above...

yea, they was workin' with levelin' it when I was there. The thing about that nudi, when I seen it, it was makin' its way to the crack. I was gonna get Ken to see if thats what it was (im almost for sure it is) but it made it in the crack of the shelf before I could.
