Having a problem

And need some advice, Some of my zoas and polys aren't opening up and I am on the verge of losing a few frags at this time. Everything had been going along fine for the last few months until the last few weeks. What I have been doing differant in the tank lately: I started trying to strech out my water changes, instead of a 20 to 25 gallon water change in my 125 gallon tank every seven days, I have streched it out to every 10 days and the only other thing I have done is, I have been feeding my fish a bit more food since I got another fish in the tank. The fish is a Kline Butterfly fish, I got him to help with an aiptasia problem in the tank, but I haven't seen him messing with the zoas and polys and I have been watching, lol. What I have done to try and correct this problem: I did a 20 gallon water change this past Sunday and I did a 25 gallon water change today ( four days later). Any thoughts?

One more thing I did that might be a problem, about two weeks ago before I got the Kline Butterfly fish I used the Aiptasia X, a pretty good bit killing the Aiptasia the were growing in the tank.

You maybe right, I got to thinking, the fish stays pretty mych on the left side of the tank, and guess where my problem is. I only have one frag on the right side that has just started giving me a problem. Now, how do I catch him?

What I did this morning was try and catch him, didnt work out to good yet. I took all my frags on the left side of the tank and moved them up into my frag rack and to the right side of the tank. My Yellow Tang keeps the Kline away from the right side of the tank and hopefuly that will keep the Kline away from my frags until I catch him.

I agree, the Klein might be a problem.
Aside from that, any other changes? Have you added any new frags in the last few weeks?

hook and line. Get a small gold hook, and put a tiny piece of food on it.even if you cant hook him you can lure him up to the bait then net him from below. fish heal fast from being hooked.

I tried for two hours to catch him, no go. Unless ya'll have a better idea, I think I am going to have to take out most of the Live Rock on the left side of the tank and then try and trap him over there where I can get a net on him. I have a large piece of the plastic square graiting I used to make my frag tray out of and I am going to cut a piece that I can use as a divider in the tank. Then get the fish on the left side of the tank, and then as fast as I can put the divider up and then try and net him. I can't come up with a better idea, that is unless I can get the LFS man over here and let him do it. Hes the one that talked me into getting this ^%$# fish because he couldn't get the Peppermint shrimp in for me. But I guess I really can't blame him, ya'll told me not to do it and to get the shrimp, so I knew better.

Wait till lights turn off , pitch black. Figure out where he sleeps and hides at regularly. Use a red light to find him ( he can't really see the red light much ). put net or hands near him... the immediately flash the white light to dissorient him, then scoop him out. I've done this to foxfaces, large wrasses, and other tangs.

That shounds like a good idea. The thing that makes it hard catching him is that I have a 125g tank with about 225 # of LR in the tank, not much room to move around in there. I will work on catching him Sunday.

Well, the Kline is out and is history. It took the wife and I two hours to get him, and another hour to clean up the mess. We had to take every piece of live rock out of the tank except four large pieces that we couldn't get out unless we took the canopy off, we also had to take almost half the water out of the tank. I had just about every zoa and polyp frag out of the tank and hope that it didn't kill them. The water in the tank is a mess and the skimmer is working over time. Other than that I am having a pretty nice evening.

Man I know the feeling, I had the same issue with a rouge pistol shrimp. Pulling the tank apart is not a fun task...run some carbon (if you're not already) and hopefully the water will settle and the frags will be fine.

Have a few cold one's and relax now...

I thought I was going to give our Foxface a heart attack, but he seems alright this morning or at least hes still alive. I still have to redo my aqua scaping today. I just put the rock back into the tank as best I could last nite.

The Fox Face has never given me any trouble, but I will keep an eye on him now, lol. I keep everything pretty well fed and keep two vegie clips in the tank during the day and the fish swim back and forth between the two clips. When I got this tank, it was my first SW tank and I knew nothing. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't have all these fish in the tank, just Zoas and polys my clowns and my alge blenny and my and my Midas Blenny. I can't get rid of the other fish now, the wife won't let me, lol I have asked.

I am going to reaquascape my tank today and I was wondering about something. Let me ask ya'll your thoughts on this: Like I said I have a bunch of LR in this tank. most likely to much. All the LR that is not on the outer layer of my aqua scaping, meaning the LR that dosn't get water flow and lighting on it like the outer layer does, dosn't have the (sp) corline alge growth on it. Does this LR without the alge growth serve any useful purpose in the tank other than helping create knooks and cranies for the remaining fish to hide in? I guess where I am going with this is, do I really need this much LR in the tank. When I first got this tank the LFS man said I shoud get 125# of LR and as I was having a hard time getting the rock, I had rock ordered from several diff. sources and when it all came in I ended up with 235# of LR for a 125g tank. I have no problm with this much LR in the tank but if the inside rock won't grow any corline alge on it and dosn't serve any biological need for the tank, I could give my tank a open apperance with less LR in the tank. Any thoughts on this.
