Hawaii Diving Pictures - November 2011

Had my first diving experience in Hawaii a couple weeks ago. Below are some pictures I snapped. Ended up going on two separate trips in Maui and one in Kona. Needless to say, I'm hooked! What an amazing experience! :eek2:

Please note, I am by no means a photographer, just an amateur capturing some memories.

Camera is a Canon S95 with a Canon WP-DC38 Waterproof Housing.

Enjoy!

The s95 does a pretty good job for a pocket size camera! I have one too.

While you were diving in Kona, did you see any of the black phase Long Nose Yellow Butterfly? My understanding is they are unique to the Kona area. I've seen them diving there a number of times.

I, too, love the arch picture... wow.
I would LOVE to dive... could you fill me in a on a few things, if you don't mind?
Did you have to take courses on diving?
Do you know the folks you dove with? Or how did you orchestrate the dive? As much as I love the ocean... I don't think I'd want to do it alone, yet...
How much of a bite is the price on equipment?
Where the fish scared of you much?

Never dive alone.

One needs to be certified, which generally means courses.

There are many dive boats which are happy to take certified divers out for a fee.

Equipment can be rented. However, purchasing a mask which fits your face well is a good idea. Dealing with a perpetually leaky mask is a pain.

Fish are generally leary of large noisy swimming things, though they get used to them.

Great Pics Brandon! I'm really surprised how well they came out just using the point and shoot camera. Its amazing the variety of fish you saw. I'm sure you will be going back.

Those are some great pictures! It looks like you had a blast! I got my certification a year or two ago but haven't done a dive yet. Hawaii looks like a beautiful place to dive though.

very nice ,thanks for sharing with us . its such a blast being down under the water seeing the fish in their natural habitat isn't it ?

I wish I would have known they were unique to Kona! I didn't see any, unfortunately!

I think you did a great job on the pics! I really like these two.

Thanks!

Awesome photos. Hopefully you shot some video too!

I did! Video is great on this camera!
