Hawaii Fish Order Update Thread

again not to bash.. but please use caution when doing a gb on fish... it is not the bests way to go about getting specimens

I got 4 fish from the last group buy we did with Gabriel spent $100 + not 1 survived a week. I dont know if it was just me, i rather pay double for lfs at least you have a fish at the end. Not worth it.

Yeah, I was going to say that I went in on that one with gabe on the last hawaii order and I got like $150 in livestock, everything died except some small pencil urchins and a small brittle star.

yeah i dont know what happend but alot of people's fish did not make it... the only fish that all made it were the crosshatch triggers...

i think its better to do a GB with the local wholesellers via a LFS/ RC sponsor than it is to have them shipped from another state....

most people dont know the survival rate of fish. When shipments are recieved may of the fish are already dead or on their way. Wholealers and stores eat this cost and mark up their fish accordingly. Although it wasnt common knowlege in the past maybe it will become so soon.

Unfortunately your warnings will most likely be ignored because the fishes available are not readily available AND the prices cannot be beat. It'll be an expensive lesson for many of the buyers.

I was really tempted to get the mystery wrasse pair but its too much too risk. Going to pay more and get it through Gal who quarantines his fish.

The diver is guaranteeing live arrival. The fish I received Tuesday are all healthy, doing well and eating. Please, if you don't have anything positive to say, don't post in my thread scaring people off.

FishyBiz- We do have room for one more pair of Mystery Wrasses but there is someone in line pending payment. If it falls through I can let you know if interested.

Sorry to post on YOUR thread but this is OUR forum. We just want to inform OUR friends and neighbors of previous experience and let them decide. I think it is best if everyone is well informed.

True that there is fish guarantee but you have no claim on the shipping. No money refund either. You have to pay a pretty hefty shipping cost if you want your replacement fish.

Good luck with your group buy and hope you have better results.

You could always start your own thread in your forum to warn your friends... I'm just trying to offer everyone the same great deal that I'm getting and the group together is what is making it possible.

I would like to thank everyone who has joined in on the group buy. You have made this buy possible.

Thanks again,
Ryan

I brought about 15 fish back myself when I went to Hawaii last year from the same diver so that might of explained my success. It was 10 hours total from the time he packed the fish at Hononlulu to the time I floated the bags in my quarantine tank. Only 1 fish didnt make it pass the first week which was a Thompson Tang. My Moorish Idol is still doing well

I personally saw the diver's holding system and it was well maintained and not overstocked. Fish looked healthy and no deaths seen.

I dont see anywhere in my question that was directed to "WE". Only Gabe.

the problem was not the arrrival, all but 1 or 2 fish arrived alive.. it was the next day and up to a week later where were were seeing dead fish... again i am warning the fellow reefers in socal about buying fish straight from the "diver" in hawaii.. I did a gb with him and it did not work out well for most of the reefers involved.. again not to bash but i will post this same story every time you post a "fish GB" thread in the SoCal forum....

i hope it works out for all those people who decided to get in on the GB...

W0000T?

Heck I just unpacked a shipment today and not one DOA. If LFS are getting mega mortalities they must be dealing with the wrong suppliers... If I got an order and most or all of it was dead or died within a few days, it would be my last order from that source, unless I knew the problem was at my end.

Sorry to butt in - somebody in another forum just posted a link to this one... and that post just kinda prompted me to come out of lurkdom.

Back to your regularly scheduled critique...

Jenn

turtlespd knows as little about the survival rates of fish as the people he claims know little about them ;)

and i'm in a good position to know :P

I figured you would like to know from people that bought before.
Just trying to help, people need to relax.

Greg.
