Hawaii snorkeling photos

just a 10 dollar underwater kodak disposable camera :) worked great though and was tons of fun. I didnt even think i would have the time to snorkel in Hawaii but ended up buying a whole bunch of snorkeling gear, book (tells you where to snorkel), and about 400 pictures to take home with me :)

I'm heading out on a cruise to Hawaii in August.

Could you let me know where you took these pictures.

Thanks

The photos in the album under Hawaii Snorkeling Photos were actually taken on Oahu at Hanauma Bay (I think I spelled that right). a great place for the beginner, good number of fish and variety and it gets more interesting the deeper and farther out you go. I loved it. The other picture were taken on Kauaii at Poi Pu beach on the souther end and Tunnel's beach at the beach at the very end of the road in norther Kauaii. It was my first time snorkeling :)

lol twas my first time snorkeling. To my understanding the Hawaiian islands are located much farther north then most and are some of the youngest when compared to those of the southpacific and elsewhere. Also the places I snorkeled were very close to shore> runoff, dirt, silt, ect. In deeper water where I did not go, there was much more reef development. There were some very nice looking procilipora/monipora corlas that were pink purple.

I watched a prog the other day. About how the tourism industry is really wrecking eco systems in Hawai. Very sad to see snorkellers trampling all over reefs. They should be educated before being allowed into the sea!

Agreed. The Hanauma Bay reserve does try to educate its visitors with a 15 minute video which emphasizes such.

Indeed it is important for anyone visiting these delicate environments to make their impact as light as possible.

There not much to look at but fish in Hanauma Bay till you get out past the major snorkel area. I have dove it several times, a little bit of a surface swim but once you get down and follow the old undersea cable out to the mouth of the Bay there is actually some really nice coral formations. A buddy of mine saw a Manta Ray out there last fall.

PS. You might want to be careful with haole comments. I am probably one of the most reef conscious haoles on the Island!
