Hawaiian Flame Angel @ fish planet

I saw the most beautiful Hawaiian flame angel at fish planet today. It was SO BRIGHT ORANGE, IT WAS STUNNING.

I wish I had my 50g , I would of grabbed it in 1.2 seconds flat.

Also, the SW section is coming along, slowly but it is looking nice.

They also got some nice healthy helfrichi firefish for $99. I think it's a pretty good deal considering the fact that I've never seen any at any LFS around here nor for that cheap online. I think the cheapest I've seen them go for is around $149.

Sounds like Fish Planet is turning out to be THE place to buy fish!

BTW - I was really impress with the Jonathan Mee's presentation at the last meeting. I was expecting a boring meeting, but found it quite entertaining.

Churchboy,

I think the post was about a flame angle. Your picture is of a gorgeous wrasse.

Karl: same fish, but more consistantly vibrant and much healthier than the specimens brought from the surrounding indo/pac. This is due to the lack of cyanide fishing, more regulated waters, much more diversity of life and foods, waay cleaner waters, but mostly the major difference is their health(better survivability) and way they were caught and handled. Usually demand a higher premium due to all those factors as well.

I see. I thought there was a coloration difference. I'm more partial to the Christmas Island Flames. Probably been at least 15 years since I've seen one.

wow way pretty. id get one if it could live in a 24 gal ;) as for the helfrichi, yep great deal on them. i went to check them out the other day, they still have 4 of them, 2 of them are rather on the small side and the other 2 are decent size. I ordered one and the one i have is bigger than off them, just not sure if i was to get one, if id need to get a smaller one or wat.

CRS

I know we've had this discussion umpteen times, but I can't remember right off... do they pick at SPS, or is it softies, or ... ? And yes, I know it usually boils down to individual specimens, some are terrors and some have no interest in what we want to preserve. They are beautiful and I've always been tempted.

Well, Im right there with you in forgetting Fred ;)

But the one I had was a model citizen amongst my softies and few lps I had at the time in my 30g. Never tried one with my sticks though, I think another cautionary note may extend to clam owners as well, especially 3" or less, but I could be thinking of another fish(sorry if I am).

Not so. There is no cyanide used in the waters where flame angels are captured on a commercial scale. The coloration is soley due to location. Just like a coral beauty from Tonga is more blue then a PI one, and Fiji one are far more orange. They all are pretty much captured the same way, divers with nets. From what I've been told over the years, it has very little to do with food source.

Flames are mainly caught in Tuvalu IIRC. Mainy "Hawaiian's" are labled as such mainly due to most flame angel imports land in HI first :)

The only reason HI's cost more is, they where collected by first world divers ;) The better treatment is just an artifact of them getting more money, and having less time in shipping/holding.

I saw these angels yesterday and they looked better than the angels I had and paid $65 for. Fish Planet sells them for only $50.
