Just as an interesting tidbit for us reef keepers:
The Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument was renamed on Friday as the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument!
This National Marine Sanctuary is the largest of all the sanctuaries in US waters and is currently the largest in the world. It was created June of 2006, so its hardly a year old and it already has a new name. The Sanctuary covers over 137,000 square miles of Pacific Ocean and includes habitat for threatened and endangered species like green sea turtles and the Hawaiian monk seal.
More info on this marine protected area (MPA) and its important place in ocean conservation can be found at http://hawaiireef.noaa.gov and http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/education/
Happy reefin'!
