Hawaii's New Collection Rules - Only 40 Species of Fish on "White" List

I saw a total of one flame angel while diving at Honolua Bay back in 2010. Decent size, too.

Yeah, dove off Kauai back in the day and couldn't turn around without running into a potters. Never saw a flame.

The white list is isolated to the West side of Hawai'i (or the big island) only. Oahu, where the idols, most bandits etc are caught and shipped.

It is good that we are protecting Hawaii, but it shouldn't stop at only fish collection... There are numerous other factors that hurt the reefs around Hawaii as well.

We will see what happens with the prices. It isn't a huge deal really.

Agreed with other factors. Run off, golf courses, development, fishing, etc all play factors as well. If done correctly, fish collecting should be a sustainable resource. I hope more attention is paid to Kaneohe Bay.

Here's the map, for restrictions. I should have added this to the original post.

How convenient to target small guys. Did we forget the most recent incident where sugar refinery dumped thousands of gallons of molasses into Honolulu bay?! How many fish died then?! But no, let's screw small hobbyists over 100 yellow tangs... What a bunch of baloney! Sugar plant is still in business...

I am all for protecting Hawaii. I just wish there weren't politicians involved. Maybe this will stimulate efforts in captive breeding of marine fishes.
