Hawkfish Compatibility

As I have been keeping hawkfish for just under three years I found your article interesting and very accurate in describing the behaviour of my flame hawk for the most part.

I was however curious about a few of the species of fish that you list under the "will not co-exist" with hawkfish column.

I have a breeding pair of banggai cardinals and several anthias as well as a lawnmower blenny that I have kept with the hawkfish for several years even when I had a smaller tank. (except the anthias which are new with the larger tank) I have a friend that I have traded off one of my baby cardinals at about 3 months old and he has it in with a flame hawk for the last couple months with no signs of aggression.

I will agree with you 100% on the ornamental shrimp as they were all consumed about 1 year after adding my hawkfish but really would like to hear why you think some of these other fish are not compatible.

Thanks, Nathan

thanks for your comments regarding my article, as well as your input on personal experience. it is always appreciated, especially from yourself.

flamehawks are very cool fish. they can be mixed with more fish than the average hawk; their personality allows this. but as is the case with most (all?) species of reef fish, the personality differs from fish to fish. you never know what your gonna get....as i like to say, "that fish didn't read what scott michael said about them."

also, keep in mind, the hawkfish "compatibility chart" can be considerably vague at times (unfortunately). as the chart was titled, "hawkfish compatibility," not "flame hawkfish compatibility," it lumps an entire family into one chart. not an accurate description on some particular families.

again, thank you for your input.

separately, I'm gonna drop you a PM. hope you can help.
