How do you like the Finnex I think that is the way Iam going to go for a new one. To replace two of these I currently have.

On one of my systems, I use two 500w titanium heating tubes and from my experience, each of the following brands have only lasted one heating season for me.
Finnex - 3 units
Aqua Medic - 2 units
JBJ - 1 unit

Right now I am using the 500w titanium tubes from Jehmco and they have faired well for for the past 2 heating seasons.

Surprisingly on a different system, I have two 250w Via Aqua titanium heaters with their own controllers (but I still have them on an Aqua Controller) like Masedaddy and they have been working for the past 10 years without a hiccup.

Yep probably the cheapest most counted on piece of equipment we have to put in perspective. I don't trust anything with a heating element no matter what industry were talking about. Again I buy the cheap ones and replace annually.

Just out of curiosity, does everyone keep tanks covered year round? Come winter I get so much evaporation beyond my needs I cover maybe 90% of top and same deal for sump. I have some DIY Cree LED's that I just ramp up the voltage to make up for the glass barrier. It definitely helps keep the tank warmer. Skimmer takes care of most of the air exchange.

I also have a 1" EPS (blue or pink styrofoam sheets you see at Depot and Lowes R value of 5) on back of tank and under it along with a side sheet on one panel that isn't viewable (60 cube in corner). I'm using 2 200 watt ebo jagers but one is just backup set at a lower temp and doesn't go on.

when it gets warmer I take the glass off and turn the fans on to get the better air exchange and evaporation needed.

I know this probably doesn't work for most situations but I plan eventually on doing a basement sump and will definitely be using the EPS foam on all sides and bottom (again removable for summer benefit). I'll see if I can figure out a plan for the top. Ideally if you can get the EPS directly on the surface of the glass this works best.

Ive had no issues with The Finnex... I like that there is no controller nor temp probe to go bad and just the element. I whole heartedly rely on my apex .
So Much so I just may buy an extra temp probe and swap it out.

I actually plan on using the little bit thicker foam and making a room outta of it for my sump area. Was just talking about doing this with the wife this AM. I have to figure out how to make it nice looking on the visible side(preferably before the Superbowl)

Vince! Long time no see. I was thinking about you the other day. Hope all is well.

Ok, It's off topic but it's been a long time since I've seen a post from you.

Hi Leslie, yeah, slowly spending more time on my tank. It's been a long time coming. House projects are getting smaller allowing more time for something.
Hope things are going well for you. It's been a long time. Still have a nice size piece of your devils hand.

Maybe see you at FFM?

Seems to be the only thing I make it to every year now.
