Heat!

So how is everyone holding up in the heat? I have a nasty little microclime where I am that guarentees it'll be 10 degrees hotter than they say it will be. I wasn't home this afternoon to check the thermometer out back -- it's scary that they say it was 100F today!

With the baby tanks and the QT tanks running, I have no choice but to climate control the house, or at least the front half. My new AC is running like a champ! And running... and running...

Still, it's cooling down fast this evening and they are only predicting 91F tomorrow, and then cooling down to 80-ish the rest of the week. Whew! It seems early in the year for this, but at least we didn't have a freak heat wave in March like we did last year.

It was hotter in Ontario than Hesperia... hard to believe. My tank crept a few degrees, but nothing serious.

Gloomy... they are reporting upper 60's tonight, maybe 70. Ugh! Without an attic fan, it's gonna be hard to get the house cooled down nicely for tomorrow morning.

attic fans work good. i need to put one in my gargage. getting way to hot with all of the halides. i insulted the entire garge 2 weeks ago made a huge difference. i bought a attic fan that has a built in thermostat. going to hook it up soon. i am tempting knocking a whole in the wall and sticking my chiller outside. causing a lot of heat. it takes the fun out of tending after my corals when my chiller is on. so glad i have one though.

Comparitively lucky in my location (about 1/4 mile up from Monarch Beach), but still feeling the heat. Heater's been unplugged since May 1, but tank still hit 84 today with the windows open...

Will be turning the AC if it gets any hotter than it was today.

I"m lucky enough to be able to say that my tank has kept a steady 78.8-80.1(without a chiller) - throughout our high temps of 102 today!

Mind you, this is with my A/C only in the living room and my tank in a separate room.I did shut the curtains first thing in the AM,have a clip-on fan blowing across the tank as well as 2/ four" pc fans running in the canopy.Until I move to someplace with central AC,my light(250 w) is only going to be on for about 5 hours a day after 4 PM.

My tank hit 85 degrees today and has been hovering around 83 usually....Ive been throwing RO/DI Ice cubes in my sump and they work a tad, Im also running the air (cant wait to see the electric bill) Im thinking Im going to need a chiller :(

I lost a small frogspawn frag. If it gets any hotter, I'll start losing more. Mushroooms and GSPs are looking mighty upset.

The heat wave last year nuked a bunch of stuff. Hope it doenst happen again this year.

My sump is in the garage. My garage hit a high of 95 degrees but with one 12" fan switched to high blowing across my sump kept my 150 gal tank from going over 83 degrees. Overnight that one fan can drop the tank temp to 78 degrees. Fan on high uses 50 watts compared to a 1000 watts chiller. Im ready to put a second fan in case we have 100+ temp during the summer.

Mine is holding steady. low temp of 79 highest at 80.5. In the summer I bump up the temp of the tank to avoid larger swings. I also have a larger stagger in the lighting the tank w/ 2 bulbs from 10 am - 6pm and the other 2 bulbs from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm. All 4 bulbs are only on together for 3.5 hours and that is when the temp spikes at 80.5. If temps are a concern, you can always change you lights to come on at 6pm and turn off in the middle of the night.

I still think it strange that my 65w fuge light runs hotter than my main tank lights -- I have more of a heat problem at night!

The big tank in the garage hit 83, the one in the house hit 84. Everything seems OK though. I opened up the garage when I got home and turned the fans on. Not much I can do about the house, just keep teh windos open and the fans going.

Shawn, if you need another froggie, let me know and I'll try to sneek you a peice out of the wifes tank. ;) just don't tell her.
