heat

hey Eric i did not put all the information out (1) new tank 1month old (2)Has a cover on it the temp is set on 78.0 but will not hold that setting. up down up down .I am probaly getting 2 nervous 2 soon. Maybe because its so new .Will just have two RELAX and wait and see:rolleyes:

Are you using a digital thermometer to read temp? I wouln't go by the mark on the heaters they are off IMO. The best way to test your heater is to place your heater in a bucket and regulate the temp in a small area rather than the hole tank. Set the temp on the thermometer and wait until it turns off close to the mark. Then test your thermometer against the heater. This will give you a bench mark to go by. How old is the thermometer? Just a thought but your heater could be faulty.

How many gallons does your aquarium hold? What wattage is your heater? At what time of day does it read highest/lowest?

Also, Lighting...what type and how close to the surface of your water? Pumps/powerheads...how many and what type?

It is a 20gl tank -100wh heater- temp change at night mostly But has done it during day no special time -lights are 65w 50-50 on a timer from 10.00 till 10.00 -skimmer -whisper power filter- maxi jet 600.again i am probaly two much in hurry

Other than what was mentioned make sure the heater is in an area that gets good flow. I would have it near the Maxijet or maybe the Whisper, which ever is adding to overall circulation more.

What brand of heater is it? What type of thermometer, Mercury, Digital, Stick-on Liquid Crystal (I'll assume digital since your readings are so precise)?

You do have alot of heat-producing sources in your aquarium. Pumps and lights can contribute to heating your water, especially during the day when your lights are on and the room temperature increases. Also, most submersible heaters are not extremely accurate in their settings. If you think you have your heater set on 78, it will most likely be set at +/- one to two degrees from that.

Are you at home often enough throughout the day to monitor the fluctuations and chart them?

Well knock on wood i think we might have got the heat two Maintain. We moved the heater around the tank, and four the last Day it seams to be ok.I thank everyone four thier help and the suggestion. Thanks again four you guys help it help alot Thanks

Good deal Thomas. I think that you need to start enjoying your tanks and doing less worrying. Remember tanks are good for high blood preasure, don't let them raise it.
