Heater died...

So, my 200 watt heater on my 55 gallon died. I put a little 10W that I had lying around in the sump and it seems to be keeping up. I am very surprised. Will the 10W keep up or should I get another big heater ASAP?

Thanks, guys!

Depends how cold it gets in the winter or your room temperature. 10 watt not going to do anything for a 55

Normally, I would agree with you that 10W shouldn't do anything, but it appears to be working for now. Tank temp got down to 74.5. Ambient temp is 72... The 10W is keeping the water at 77.5 ....

I have one on order now. It makes me feel better, I guess. I'm really surprised about the 10W having any affect at all.

The 10W heater is probably constantly running to have any impact on the temperature. Pumps and other equipment also introduce heat into the system. Like scuzy said, it may not be a problem during the summer, but it is definitely not a long-term solution. Better safe then sorry...

I have a heater you can borrow. Actually I have a spare heater, vortech, recirculating pump and almost any medicine for coral or fish disease. 10 years in the hobby and I have learned to have back ups.

Thanks, Eugene. My new one should be here on Wednesday, so hopefully the 10W will hold up through then. I'll let you know if I need anything....
