Run an inverter off your car cigarette lighter with an extension cord and you can run a heater and a powerhead for $35 from Wal-Mart. I have 2 to keep my tank going when the power goes out.

I have not picked one up yet, but there are battery powered heaters that you can get from cattle stores. They are designed to go into rubermaid type water containers for cattle. They run on Nine volt batteries. here is an example
i ran a power inverter off a diesel truck battery (1050 CCA) for about 8 hrs. It kept both my tanks flowing and warm. I also have run an inverter off my old toyota pickup, but i would let it idle all night and turn it off the engine during the day for about 3-4 hrs at a time. Then start it back up and let it run for a half hr or so just to charge the battery back up.
I loss power off and on for the weekend . I was able to keep my water temp up with candles under my stand on the floor .Work well as long as the doors to the stand stayed closed .
