Hey there. Thought Id show off my 29 with its new additions. Recently added the red brain, goniopora, and the eagle eye zoos.

10 gal sump is new but the rest of the tank has been running for about 2 years with few changes. It was time to take it to the next level so i added a sump, new rockwork, and more corals are soon to follow!

Just took some pictures but they were a bit distorted by the resize.

Hope you enjoy!

Oh and I might add that the Brain just had a nice hunk of fish, so hes a bit closed up ATM...

I have a 50/50 PC running off a dual 24watt ballast along with 4 powerbrite strips.

DIY from the ground up... Hood, Overflow, Sump, Media reactor...

The sump is incomplete. I plan on putting a light and some cheto on a 'shelf' (leggo? havent decided how im going to do it yet) over the Bio-Bale on the left side of the sump. It might look half-assed but its my little experiment and a work in progress.

Its not perfect but it works for me! Ill be adding 2 more powerbrites soon. If i knew i would need this much light than i would have done it all differently, but the tank started its life as a 5.5 and I just added to the existing hardware.

Let me know what you think!

It looks great. I really like the look of your canopy.

What are you doing in the sump? Using the bucket to create a chamber? What's the substance on the left?

The bucket was a quick idea i had for my first baffle. The sock hasnt quite made it in there yet, but i have my equip on that side. I figured i throw some "bio Bale" on the left side rather than leave it empty. Gotta make use of every square inch in a nano setup!

Looking good! I think blacking out the back of your tank to hide the cords would be a huge improvement. You can buy vinyl backing at most LFS's and cut it to fit. Other than that, you seem to be off to a great start.

[welcome]

looks great! Yeah black vinyl works great for the back. I used it on my 65. Just like putting on window tint... okay a lot easier than that!

Eileen is on to something with adding a background - should help a lot. Interesting light set-up too.

With the sump I would remove the bio-bale (don't need it with all the live rock in the system), replace it with chaeto. In fact if you can find the time, I would start over and partition the sump - it would be easier to include items like a skimmer if need be.

Finally, good luck with the goniopora - they are typically quite difficult to keep long term. Read up on successful aquarists who have kept them for a more than a few months - maybe not having a skimmer would benefit that animal...

Finally, good luck with the goniopora...

Ive heard all about them. My tank is very well established, I feel i have as good a chance as anyone. these type of animals amaze me, and I want to help uncover what keeps them healthy in captivity. i dont plan on running a skimmer unless I absolutely have to.

The backround will be coming soon. I have black paint but i havent gotten around to it.

I will be setting up a wet/dry shelf for some chaeto. I plan on having the runoff from the first section trickle down over some sort of lit refugium area then under it will be te return. The bucket was just in place to keep the water level high under the overflow, but its doing a decent job as a baffle for now. I like to improvise a bit if you cant tell. Id rather figure out my own system than copy another. The overflow/sump project has caused me some headaches but ill end up with a totally unique design. :bum:

Well today I fixed some plumbing issues and threw in some new zoas and polyps. I also built something like a turf scrubber in the return of my pump. I used the 'stepped' portion of one of those gutter drain extenders that sits on the ground . I used my dremmel and grinder to etch the steps and tied it into the overflow with a pendant light over it. lets see if it works!

pictures to some tomorrow when these GSP open up.

kewl setup, very interesting with the canopy :) thinking of building a turf scrubber too, waiting to see what u have built :D
