Hello and a question

I know I've posted a picture before but after meeting some of you at the pizza night I thought I would post another (even though it's not much to look at) it has been running since around July. I started with full dry rock.

That leads me to my question. I need a new return pump because mine is letting off mine too much stray current. Where is a good place to start researching pumps.. I've been lucky this far not having to replace any and was sold the ones I'm using now with the tank.

Go to a website and filter the price you want to spend read the reviews there and the look on RC for reviews as well. Then buy local.

Bulk Reef Supply usually does very good review.

Are you just running a return or you running a manifold? Do you want to control it on an apex? Do you want to conserve power? How much you want to spend? What spac do you have? What is your favorite color? Ok maybe not the last one....

Are you sure it's the return pump and not something else?

Yes actually It's the cause of about 3/4th of the current. Most of the rest falls on my heater. I tested by unplugging one thing at a time and checking again with a meter.

It's a 90g with 100lb rock. I have a 30g sump/fuge that I hope to redo soon. Skimmer, gfo reator, carbon reactor, lights are ocean revives.

Jebao

Jebao

I bought a Jebao DC-12000 from Corals and More. Their price was better than anyone else. DC pumps and more energy efficient and with the controller you can adjust the speed.

It is my understanding that restricting the flow on the output is OK, but restricting the flow on the input of the pump is not good for the pump.

A good old fashion mag 9 or 12 should do the trick, but then again I'm old school and koddie calls them paperweights

I completely missed this post.. What benefits would i have if I wanted to run it with an APEX. I was thinking about getting an apex soon but haven't convinced myself to pull the trigger yet.

Thanks for all the responses. Hoping to pick something up pretty soon, D smack I'm pretty sure its a mag of some kind in the tank now.

Killing the return when feedin. Manual control for maintenance. Never having to unplug. Being cooler than dsmack.

On a side note those who have a n apex will tell you it is one of the best purchases they have made.

not to change the topic of my own post but is the apex gold worth getting or is it better to go with the basic apex and add as you go? the "lab grade" salinity and ph probes are really the difference i can remember off hand right now between the two.

I just got the apex and have added most of the modules. Typically Lab Grade is the way to go in this hobby, that is a quote from nook, but not referring o the apex.

If you don't mind sharing what's your apex set up? (What are you monitoring) trying to figure out what I want to start off with.. and did you buy yours locally?

...Where is a good place to start researching pumps...

I usually start with Bulk Reef Supply and Premium Aquatics when I research new equipment simply because of the number of items that they carry. I check the info and reviews there and on RC before shopping the price around. However , don't forget that they don't carry every brand you may be interested in and many local shops can at least meet their prices.
