Hello, hello, hello, is there anybody in there ???

So low nutrients,,, I agree there. I am running GFO 24/7. Was running carbon Roxx. But only use it ocassionally. I have cut my feeding back alot. Twice a week I drop a phosphate bomb in the tank witha little of everything to feed my corals and the slower fish that don't get as much to eat. I pretty much have the algae whipped at this point. I let it go on the back of the tank and rotate areas, I think it helps to keep it off the rock and sand. Any of you running GFO ??? I think that all of my corals look noticably better the next day after I feed with the frozen meaty foods. No doubt in my mind that it helps them. I put different kinds each time. Mysis, Brine, Emerald Entree, Squid, then I'll put 1/2 tspn Cyclop-eeze, I'll cut up some Nori for my big herbivores, plus crush up flake in smaller pieces for the smaller fish. I get awesome polyp extension on everthing. I individually feed my euphyillias, calaustrea, fungia, favia, plerogyra they like it and respond well.

Tyler, so how much are you dosing ? I am using Kalk in my ATO and dosing vinegar too. I have been dosing about 9ml per gallon of ATO. I can tell a big difference. I just started the 5th of this month. I run my skimmer 24/7. I want to get the neck cleaner and skimmate locker for mine. I have a Reef Octopus NWB-150

Not dosing a lot yet, I think 20mL per day of Calcium and Alkalinity for this past week and my test was exactly the same result as 7 days ago... I expect next week I'll have to up the daily dose by 1-2mL, most everything is growing except a few (2-3)of my 10-12 Acros which are looking kinda bleached out but have only been in the system for three weeks.

Vinegar wise I'm still playing around trying to find the happy spot, I think it's at either 23 or 25mL per day although I might need to drop it back a few mL now that my algae is obliterated and the nitrates are rock solid zero...

I wish I had room under my stand for a neck cleaner, but the Monterey stand just isn't tall enough to accommodate it on top of my xp2000 that sits on a rack, however I am going to grab a skimmate collector in the near future to help reduce maintenance.

I rescued the plate, she was almost completely pulled back from the skeleton. Now, she's doing great but still in recovery mode.

I run GFO 24/7 and keep my p04 below .05 ppm with a Hanna checker.

I was thinking of trying to upgrade to the SRO 2000 SSS. But not sure if it would be the best move. They say that if you go too big, that the skimmer will not function as efficiently ? I want to call them to get thier advice before I start putting more money into mine. But I can't complain about mine, it is awesome !!! I cleaned it today, just the cup. Been about 4-5 days since I cleaned it. It was nasty !!! I'm talking about 1/4" thick on the inside of the neck. About 1" of very thick dark liquid in the cup. I have to flush the commode a couple times after I dump it in there. I wonder how much better or even if it would be better with the neck cleaner ? I was wondering if anyone has done any research into what pump size best matches a skimmer. Say the main system pumps 635 gph, try to match the skimmer to that pump size. Or would it be better to get a smaller pump for the system, say 350 gph with a skimmer at around 250-350 gph ? Imagine that it would have to work better if the return pump was smaller giving more contact time to the skimmer. I want to call the people at RO to find out.

Matt, when those monster Tangs start bumpin' heads and breakin' off huge frags from all of those beatiful pink staghorn SPS and the other huge colonies that you got growing in there, LMK. I'll send you a shipping box with styrofoam, plastic bags, rubber bands and twist-ties, so you can send your homies some frags !!! I'll pay the shipping. :O)

You'd probably be best matched with an XP1000 instead of the 2000 Curtis, at least I'd think... The Coralvue forum here has a few very nice reps that are always open to give advice.

You may even want to look into an upgraded pump instead of an all new skimmer, I think the BB1000 is the pump RO pairs with its 6" skimmers.

You got it. I'm always fragging stuff. When the weather gets better hit me up.

~1.5 months birdnest (neon green, bird of paradise, and pink) growth . Also, pink lemonade acro upper left, ORA spongodes middle left, and Leng Sy purple rim cap at bottom right.

1.5 mos growth ? That looks awesome! Mine are growing but not that good. I just had one of my Sour Apple BNs end up with bare patches on it. Not sure what it was, may have been my shrimp picking on it, may have been RTN ? I looked for worms and bugs at night with red light and never found any. It just kept getting worse each day. I yanked it out of the tank and dipped it in freshwater RO/DI, nothing came off of it. I have another one about 2 feet away that is still doing fine, just as all of my others are. I just got another 26 frags, mostly SPS. Now up to around 80-90 frags. So what are you doing to get growth like that ? Mine have only grown may 1/8-1/4" in 2 mos. I don't really want them to grow too fast. I get tired of having to place all of the frags ! Tyler, I tried to talk to the people from RO, but never got an answer. Anyway, I went ahead and bought the RO ANC and thier 4" Waste Collector. The Neck Cleaner will fit my current NWB-150, plus it will fit the SRO2000INT/XP1000SSS/ and the POV-SSS-DC1, so if I decide to upgrade can still use it. Can't believe that they did not even include the tubing to connect the cup to the collector ! I am considering, pulling the trigger on a tank control system. Apex or RK ??? I pretty much have it all automated, just seperately.

Thanks.I've pretty much dialed my calcium reactor. I test my alkalinity just every month now and it's usually just about 2-3 ppm (0.11 - 0.15 dKH) off. I also use Dr Tim products every week -- Waste Away for the first 3 weekends of the month, and Eco Balance on the last weekend of the month. Nitrates remain 0.

Regarding your RTN/STN, are you running GAC or biopellets?

If you don't h ave any controller yet, I suggest you get an Apex.

I'm only running GFO 24/7. I have a GAC set-up but haven't been using it. I'll check out the Dr.Tim goodies. It would be nice to get the smallish frag look behind me.

In that case you might be running too much GFO, and it's irritating some of your corals. How much GFO are you using?

I used the calculator on BRS. Started out with just 1/2 cup. Over 2 mos built up to the recommended 1.5 cups. I tried to cut the pump back, but the last batch, clogged up and didn't tumble. I have this one just tumbling good. LMK what you think. Cut it back to 1 cup ???

I'm far from an expert as I've been dancing between coloring and fading (ULNS) over the past few weeks, but IMO you should let your phosphates dictate how much GFO you run.

Someone with 2 fish and feeding a cube of food per week in 100 gallons might get by with 1 cup of GFO changed out monthly, while someone with 10 fish feeding a cube and a half per day might have to run two cups changed out every two weeks.

Let the tests and coral guide you.

I love my Apex, the second one Ive owned.

Hey,I took some new pics of my tank. My camera sucks, but you can get an idea of what it looks like and where it's headed. I bought 2 clams and had to start 2 part dosing. I was dosing Kalk with my ATO. I switched to 2-part maybe 2 weeks ago ? I wish I had started sooner. I had a Bubble Magus, loved it, but it quit. So now I switched to a Spectrapure LM III. I am looking for 2 more of the remote pumps for it. I have been dosing everything by hand. Also started dosing vinegar again too. Here's some shots of my tank now. I always have trouble loading pics ???
