Can anyone tell me what I should do? My blenny has just been transferred to the QT tank, very stressed and not moving muvh at all. He's alive but I have not added the formalin yet and am not sure if I should wait until he calms some. Can someone help??

Preventive Treatment - The addition of Maracyn 2 should be standard practice as it will help prevent opportunistic infections from gaining ground on an already stress weakened fish. Maracyn 2 also adds vitamins B and C to the water which may increase appetite and aid the immune system.

Alternative Formalin use : If you feel the infested fish may not be able to handle long term dip methods, you may want to consider using a combination of both dip and long term bath methods, in that, give the fish a one time dip treatment to knock down and remove the infestation and then place the fish into a long term bath treatment to kill any remaining parasites. I would only do this with a heavily infested fish that could be considered a sensitive species or one that is already weakened by the parasite.

I would say, from what this article says, you should treat right away. That "might" help you save this fish. The sooner the better.

thanks for the info. I added the formalin drops into the QT tank for the "long term bath" method. After catching him, he was so lifeless I could not have put any more pressure on him. This morning he is sitting on the bottom only a few paces away from where he was last night, right by the air rock/powetrhead and breathing rapidly. Anyone have any suggestions on what else I can do? Should I do a 50% water change tonight and add formalin again?

since nobody else is going to be honest it is probably 90% dead. once fish reach the rapid breathing it is very unlikely they will make it. If you really love the fish I would prepare to by a new one. sorry sometimes the truth hurts.

I am so sorry about your blenny. I know people like to treat their fish but sometimes the stress of catching them in a reef is worse than letting them take their chances. And then there is the chance of other fish getting the disease if you do leave it alone. I think that everybody needs to make the choice that is right for them.
I unfortunately lost 3 of my seahorses to the same disease and was unable to save them even if they were in a quarantine tank.

I guess we have two thread of the same thing going - can we delete one. This seems like a "give it up" and just let it die thread - I'd go with your other one and at least try. Please if you're not willing to at least try to save your fish - give them to me :). My fish were in the same state and yes they did live and are very happy. Was it work - yes it was, a lot of work. I went into reef keeping because I LOVE fish and just because they get sick I will not give up on them. I at one time was very sick and some doctors did give up on me. I had one doctor that didn't and saved my live - sometimes that is all it takes. It might not make it but please do what you can and if it doesn't work - you can sleep at night.
