HELP chalk bass jumped

Just found my chalk bass on teh floor, maaybe for 10-15min. He was dead as a rock, just placed him (held him) in front of my powerhead for 15 min, hes fins move and his try to breath, even saw some eye movement, but after a while i let him go now he is sittin at the bottom of the tnak, any suggestions?

I dont wanna loose this guy.

I think you just need to leave him alone in a high flow area to get the oxygen flowing through the gills. Then its up to him.

get it in something that it won't have to fight off other tank mates, or the tanks flow; weak fish tend to get caught to intakes. A hang on molly breeder type container with a couple pvc fittings might make a nice refuge for it to recover. Of course getting it in its own small hospital tank would be the best place for it.

Unless u saw the fish jump its pretty much a guarantee it will not live. I've had one diamond goby one blue spot goby one hi fin cardinal one green clown goby one bi color blennie all jump when I wasnt home they all died. I had a watchman jump out while I was watching the tank he went carpet surfing and lived only cause I was their to get him asap.

Sucks to lose a fish. Just try another on u might get lucky. Fish jump for reasons being picked on by other fish or lighting can spook them. Good luck

Well i saw him ten minutes before the jump, but i guess it was too late.

aweee sorry for the loss,I have a pair of chalk bass in my 120..I like them because they behave pretty much like fresh water small mouth bass..

I too really like chalk bass, and the only reason mine is still alive is he jumped and I actually heard it and was able to quickly place him back into the tank. This was several months ago, and he is still swimming. Couple of odd things though - I had him for a while and he just jumped "out of the blue", and has not done it since, and the tank is also covered. I keep all of me tanks covered now as a matter of fact, as it not only helps with jumpers but evaporation too...

Was on a Rimless tank. And on a covered tank. No I stoped keeping Skinny and long fish. My current display is 100% sealed. For how many fish I have that's not alot. I have close to 30 fish threw out my saltwater systems. I'm not saying I'm ok with the fish jumping I'm a huge animal lover my house is a pet store hah. But just like corals ur learn what u can keep in ur systems and thenu just keep that kind of fish and corals.

I lost those fish awhile ago. Before I knew about netting covers. U live and learn.
