HELP! Coralife Float and Automatic Shutoff Valve Kit

I got tired of overflowing buckets and bought the Coralife Float and Automatic Shutoff Valve Kit ( http://www.esuweb.com/cardfile.asp?I...lationship=293 ).

Does anyone else use this? I still haven't filled my holding tank, but I lifted the valve and held it to test the shutoff. It shuts off the water to the holding tank but lets the water continue to flow out of the waste line on my RO/DI. Is this what it is suppose to do? I was under the impression that it shut off the water completely.

What exactly happens is when the valve is raised, the water stops to the holding tank. The pressure on my RO/DI initially climbs and then drops down to the previous pressure. Water continues to run out of the waste line the entire time. I held the valve up for about a minute, does it take longer than that to shut off?

Do you have a pressurized storage tank on the ro/di unit? If so it's filling it up still and will run about an hour or so after you turn off the outlet for the water (in your case the holding tank).

I have the Kent float switch/auto shut-off kit but the principle should be the same. Mine is on a Spectrapure SP2000 RO/DI.

When the water reaches the height of the float switch, the system shuts down completely including the waste water. Since the shut-off valve controls the water going into the RO membrane, there's no water to flow thru the system and no waste.

It sounds like you might have it hooked up incorrectly. . .

:D

I actually installed a Kent Float Valve and Shut Off Kit two weekends ago... it has been life changing. Very similar situation, I was tired of turning on the water and then checking to see if the container was full.

Anyway, after the float valve is reached, the reservoir water stops, but it takes about 10 minutes before the waste water shuts off.

If you don't have the seperate bladder tank resevoir that looks like a propane tank, then it "should" stop immediately. If you have the tank, then it can take an hour or so.

I don't have the tank. I Think maybe I have a bad valve. The RO/DI unit I have is a Spectra Pure as well. I went to their site and looked at the Auto shut off they offer and downloaded the directions to see if theirs was somehow different. It was identical as far as hook up. I have it testing now one last time before I call to get a new valve. I got it from Drs Foster and Smith. They seem to be good about replacing defective items.

You might try the instructions on Kent's site also. I found them easier to follow than those from Spectrapure. Kent provides instructions for straight RO setups, and for RO/DI. I have them saved as a .pdf. . .if you pm me your e-mail address I'll send them to you.

:D

So does the Coralife RO/DI float and auto shut off work good? I have credit at my LFS and they carry the Coralife unit. I want to get one of these.

Thanks.
