I've had some pretty sudden declines in my tank in the last few weeks. SPS losing color. LPS dying. Lost xxxl frogspawn ive had for two years. All mushrooms detached from rocks. Not sure what happened. All fish are great. I did have a bad temp spike to 84, but not for very long. Cal. 460, alk 4.5, nitrate is 5ppm, I use luqid reef , reef code b for buffer, and replentish trace elements, all from brightwell. The only thing that happened was that temp spike and it was a few hours. Help!!!

How much of a temp spike did you have? 3, 4, 5 degrees? And for how long?

What is your alk at? How stable is it? Does it have much fluctuation during the day?

This sounds quite bad since it's effecting LPS and mushrooms too.
Stability is vital for good coral health so measure often and keep a log.
Tune your tank slowly to the correct levels and make sure they stay there.

If it were me I'd probably be doing small waterchanges to safely raise the alkalinity. 15 gallons at a time would be a good starting point...your system is a 280 + 100 gal right??

So if its meq then your alk is 12.6 and thats a little high IMO. But what do you do to keep it up? Have you done multiple tests in one day to see where it's going?

I would retest using different testers something major is off in your tank since the mushrooms are detaching it takes alot to make mushrooms mad ..

Mushrooms detached from rock? This could be a very important find. document everything, lots of people wish they had this problem. You may become wealthy.
