Help Designing Plumbing for 220g

I just picked up a non-drilled 220g tank, and am looking for some ideas/opinions on how to plumb this bad boy.

Here are 2 ideas I'm tossing around:

Drain lines will be 1-1/2"

Return lines hooked up to 1" Sea Swirls or Wavy Seas.

I'm planning on building a new stand/canopy also.
 
I'm also looking at incorporating a closed loop setup hooked up to an ocean's motion 4 way.

Anyone have opinions on closed loop versus powerheads?

I've heard that closed loop setups are nice, because there are no powerheads in the tank. However, I have also heard that the flow from the closed loop can be too direct for corals.

Last months TOTM incorported a closed loop, and peaked my interest in it.
 
wow didn't you just set up your 90 not too long ago? That is one fast move up. Oh yea, if you are tearing down your 90, let me know about your lights. That is if you are taking down your tank.
 
Yeah the 90 isn't even 6 months old... but for $300 I couldn't allow myself to pass this opportunity up.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the 90 just yet. The 220 build is probably going to go pretty slow since I wasn't planning on the upgrade.

Congrats on the upgrade. Check with the manufacturer as the bottom pane is often tempered and will prevent you from drilling. I doubt the sides are though so you could drill your drains to feed out of the back.

Personally, I would consider a Calfo style return. It will take up considerably less real estate.

I talked to Perfecto today, and they said all the panes are safe to drill on the 220g tank.

I'm currently using a calfo on my 90g... I like it, but don't love it. The first sketch is something I was thinking of trying, which is similiar but just doesn't run the entire length of the tank.
 
Not sure what pump you are going with. I bought Pan World PS-200 pressure rated at 1700 GPH @ 4 to 5 feet 290 watts for my 180.
 
I have no idea what return pump I'm going to use... I''ll be looking for something within that flow range though. I'm trying to find some information on them now. What the noise like on the Pan World?

I'm trying to find an external pump that runs quiet, but really don't know a whole lot about the reputable brands when it comes to external pumps.
 
Word has it the Pan Worlds are quieter than the Iwaki's.

And when I tossed out on a thread that I was considering the Panworld, I got PM's from C-Sea and Cora Members that have them and love them. So for $155 shipped to my door for a 1 year old or so PS-200, I took the bait.
 
Nice score!! If you plan on makeing a wave you got to be careful with corner overflows.Thats why I put mine in the center.:eek2::D

That's not a bad at all.

A few people have recommended Reeflo pumps?

A center overflow may not be a bad idea... I was thinking of doing two smaller ones off the corners on the back of the tank... but including them all in one may work out better.
 
I run panwold pumps and love them. THey seem to be very quiet and easy to clean. We just drilled the bottom of our 180. It takes a good while. Make sure you have plenty of Beer. lol

3/4" thick on the Oceanic 180

What's the resoning for not having them in the corners with the wave... splashing into the overflow?

Also, are you doing the external wavebox?

How long did it take you for each hole? I just watched the video on glass holes, and it looked like around 5 minutes.

Also, what type of bulkheads did you use (where'd you get them from)?

I was planning on ordering from Savko.
