Help getting Gen-X 2400 pump to work

I think I am missing something really obvious here but I haven't gotten it...

I just got a Gen-X 2400 nw for my 6" diy "euroreef" but all I'm getting is a few large useless bubbles. The venturi is just the 'T' attachment at the input and a length of tubing leading from that 'T' to the air right? I can't see what I could be doing wrong.

did you cut the tube on a 45deg angel? also the 45 has to face the NW.

hope this helps

The tube is part of the molded 'T' however, so I'm only connecting plastic airline tubing to the existing nipple on the 'T'.

Is this also how the Sedra is designed? I'm surprised I'm having such a hard time getting it to work, it also came with no instructions.

Did you open it up to make sure its a needle wheel? I ordered one about a month ago and they sent me a regular 2400. I called the distributor and they sent me the needle wheel impeller and 2 venturis. One has the airline inline with the pump opening that seems to work better than the one with the airinlet on top. You also need a valve on the top of the air line, that could be part of the problem.

I tried opening it but it would not budge! How did you get it open? But from looking at it through the outlet, it looks like a needlewheel. Here's a pic (not the best):

I did also try putting a valve at the top of the airline, only made things worse. My venturi attachment is a plain 'T' however, was I supposed to get an inline one? This is what the bubbles from the output look like, not quite enough to run a skimmer:

Turn the front ring 1/4 turn to the left, it should come off. Mine came with both venturi, so I would call where you bought it from. Can you hear or feel air sucking into the airline? Open the valve and put your tounge on the end of the air line. Its easy to feel that way.

I know the ring needs to be turned to come off, but mine is on so tight it is refusing to budge.

I'm actually going to try and get the skimmer set up tonight so I can try the venturi on saltwater and see if it makes a difference.

it will. skimmers need saltwater to work. or put some vinegar in the freshwater. it will remove any oils or impurities from the manufacturing process and skim them out

After I get it repositioned, the microbubbles make it impossible to run on the main tank so I'm putting in a second rubbermaid sump tomorrow.

Pictures to come... promise!
