Hello everyone! so as the title reads, i just acquired an adult passer angelfish from the wild and i am having trouble getting it to eat. I caught it about 5 days ago. Ive tried brine shrimp and mysis soaked in garlic and nori. what else should i go out and buy that you think he would eat? TIA :lol2:

If you buy some cheap zoas you can probably get it to eat those.
I would try ocean nutrition angel formula, clam, shrimp, pellets. In the past I've had angels that would only eat one type of food and then they slowly start eating other foods.

I would try fresh clam. Most angels can't resist them. You also need to give him some time to acclimate to its new environment. This fish hasn't even been to lfs like most do before we buy them.
ok cool! I will try clams first and if that doesnt work ill throw some zoas in there. how long before i should start worrying about his health? Hes fat and healthy now but if he doesnt start eating hes obviously going to start going downhill.

How big is the fish and how big is your tank? Does he have adaquate hiding spaces to feel comfortable? You can try putting food on the live rock in hopes he will eat it off the rock. You can also try putting nori on a clip and leave it there for him to graze. If you cut some strips and let it dangle with the water flow he may be enticed to eat. I've had angels wait for me to leave the room before they ate the food in the tank. Just being taken from the ocean I'm sure he is not comfortable in your tank yet. Make sure with all the feeding and left over food you are doing frequent water changes to keep water quality up.

Is the fish out and about swimming or is it in hiding?
If it is out and about, then hit up a local fish store and get a portion on black worms. Yes the fresh water worms.
Saltfish and angels in particular love them.
If you can get him started eating them transitioning him over to other foods should be easier.

Had the same problem with an adult BlueFace.... Mine would only eat zoos for a month... No other corals.... Nor prepared foods... This is what I did that worked... Mine took to Spirulina Flakes, and foods soaked in Angelixer... The food soak is expensive but it worked.... I found that trick on ths site somewhere... After a week of those flakes and meaty foods, mysid, brine, krill, clams, mussels soaked in garlic, selcon, and Angelixer, he took to all water column foods....
