I purchased this tang from my LFS about 6 months ago as a dussumieri tang. I'm not 100% sure that it is. Sorry for the poor quality photo of him, he's really hard to get a good photo of. It's about 4" at the moment, normally a light brown color with blue lines and yellow highlights. it is developing a white band around the base of its tail. Any input will be greatly appreciated

I think I figured it out. Looks to be a Acanthurus Nigroris, (Cuvier's Surgeonfish/Bluelined Surgeon). Its about 4" at the moment. He is a cool fish but I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed that it isn't a Dussumieri. I guess I'll have to keep trying to get a Duss.

Yeah and call and give the LFS crap since they clearly are selling fish that are mislabeled and that leads me to believe that others have had the same happen to them. That's just bad for buisness

Sadly, it happens all the time. One of my LFS had a nice-looking Exquisite Wrasse for sale a while back. I inquired about the asking price, and they told me it was a Scott's. Tried to argue with them, but they were convinced. Sad thing is that a Scott's is significantly more expensive than an Exquisite, and another customer got duped eventually.

I've already given him hell about it, unfortunately he's a good friend. Can't really say it was his fault though, they fish came in as MAC certified. Although I was a bit skeptical about it being a dussumieri I purchased it anyway. I guess the price should have raised a red flag, I think it was only $40 from memory.

Friends are more forgivable and the price was right at 40$
I know that this happens often to people, you would think that if you own a store you would know your fish. I suppose suppliers can send the wrong thing or mislabel the fish too

Does it form electric blue stripes down its sides when angry/scared?

No, the lines on its body are blue but very faint. It does have electric blue outlines on its dorsal and anal fins that doesn't show up in the photo's. It does have the ability to change color when scared or excited, can turn from a light brown to almost black. Similar to that of a Vlamingii.

No, that tank was torn down a couple years back.

It is a MUCH smaller fish than a dussi.
