Whatever this stuff is, it's spreading fast! I have tried scrubbing the rock, can't seem to pick it off either. Any help would be appreciated!

If you can get a better picture, I'd like to see the structure of the blades of the grass. If it's pretty feathery, likely bryopsis. Also, in the picture it looks really pale. Is it actually greener than it appear in the photo? If not, it's dying which is probably a good thing.

Thanks for the replies! I need to order some better test kits. My API nitrate looks to be 0ppm and the API phosphate reads between 0 and .25ppm. The algae has always been white in color and very fuzzy. The tank has been set up for almost a year and a half.

Are you using RODI water? Running any GFO? How often are you doing water changes and how much each time?

I've convinced my wife I wouldn't have the issues I've had, if I would have spent the money to get my tank set up properly to begin with! My current setup is using HOB protein skimmers and a AC 110 diy refugium.

Using BRS 6 stage RODI.
Was using rowaphos in filterbag inside HOB, switched to BRS gfo bust I don't thing it works because of flow/clumping.
I do 20gallon water changes every 2-3 weeks (tank is 65 gallons)

I would pull the rocks (1 a day or so) and give it a soak for 10-15 minutes in 50% old tank water and 50% hydrogen peroxide.. During that soak scrub it with a toothbrush..
Then simply rinse it off in some more old tank water and right back into the tank..

Its not GHA...I forget the name/spelling of it now but it starts with a "C" .

Did you use BRS Reef Saver dry LR by any chance? I used it on a previous tank and failed to do the muriatic acid bath many recommend and has this stuff covering live rocks as they slowly leached phosphates.

Thanks for the info! The rock was live rock from lfs. I just got 120lbs of BRS reef saver for my new build. I've heard reef saver has very little phosphate compared to other dry rock.

Hopefully some others with experience with it will chime in but do some research on Phos in the BRS rock and muriatic acid baths. Experiences vary but mine is it's full of phosphate and not worth the risk of using with out the bath. Rock's leaching phosphate is so frustrating because you get algae growth like you are experiencing now but it's difficult to treat with GFO or phosban as the phosphate isn't in the water column.
