Help: LemonPeel Angel in Hiding.

Hi guys.

4 days ago I purchased a juvi (1.5inch) lemonpeel angel for my tank. The first two days he/she was swimming around the tank, exploring all the caves and crevices etc.. etc..

Anyway. The past two days it has remained hidden in one cave.. It will occasionally swim out just enough to poke its head out... take a look around and dart back into its cave. The only other inhabitants are a juvi sixline wrasse (1 inch) a juvi occelaris clown (1.5inch) and a bi colour blenny. None of whom have paid much if any attention to the lemon peel.

Any idea what might be up?

Cheers.
Jake.

You might try feeding some frozen cyclopeeze or live brine -- It's certainly not encouraging that it was swimming around just fine and then started to hide - but it's certainly possible that after it explored, it felt comfortable enough to stake a territory and hide out for a bit --- Time will tell

Does it come out to eat?

Where are you getting al these juvenile fish, BTW? I've been looking for a juvi Herald's angel...

LFS here in Sydney. A lot of them stock Juvi's. Plus I'm friends with a few employees and always get told first when they have what I am after.

As for him coming out to feed. He ventures out far enough to be able to feed. As in he is out in the open but very close to his cave. Once he feeds he goes back in to hiding. During the day he swims around a lot but only through and around the back of the rockwork. He just isnt coming out into the open.

:(

From what you describe the fish is behaving normally - it will become bolder with time. I have had juvi flame angels and cherubs and both were a little more secretive than adults. Have you considered buying your lemonpeel a mate? It might be more confident with a male there at least you get to see her during spawning :)

Thanks for the info on obtaining juvi's -- looks like I need to move to Australia :D

Ahh well.. It'll have to wait till I upgrade tanks in a few months time. Good to know its normal behaviour though :)
