Help me finish out my 100% Aussie reef

Yeah if you are going with a copperband you should go with the muelleri or marginalis. Relatives of the copperband, but both are a little more odd ball and more restricted to the GBR.

you do know that the scotts fairy is very aggressive to other fairy wrasses and will be very aggressive to that flasher... probally the most aggressive fairy out of the bunch..they also lose alot of color unless they aer housed with feamles..i like the idea that you are going with though...the exqusite also falls into one of the fairies that lose alot of color with out females..i can try to dig up some pics and i will show you how my aussie scotts color faded
Interesting. I have not purchased the Aussie Scott's yet or the Equisite. The only wrasses in the DT right now are the mystery, carpenter's, and the bad-azz Lineatus wrasse. Would you advise against introducing a Scott's and/or Exquisite, or would you suggest a specific method to keeping them successfully in a non-aggressive environment?

Never heard of these. Do they also eat aptasia? Also, are their any cons to keeping one?

i would pass on the scotts if i where you due to aggression.if you like that carpenters than i would not get one...the exquisite is nice and the pacific varients i think look better but i would try to get a couple of females for the male..i see female exqusites avaliable alot more now

Diving the great barrier was my inspiration for even attempting this.

If you work out what sort of biotope you'd like to recreate, you can derive your fish list from there.

Otherwise you'll end up with a mixed coral tank, with mixed fish and the only thing they'll have in common is they can be found in Australian waters. confused:

BTW if you value any meaty corals such as acans etc... I'd stay away from large angels. IME as they transform from juvie to adult coluration their diet changes too. JMO

good luck!

Suta4242 - very true, I've ruled out any angelfish due to the reason you listed. Your post has me pondering quite a few things, thanks for the info.

wrasseguy2 - very interesting. Scott's is officially off the list. How do you feel about the Labouti Wrasse? Could I keep a male/2fem group instead of the exquisite? Just wondering, as they are also beautiful species.

But honestly, I dont know what fish available to us are from Australia.

Go here to find a complete list.....

www.fishbase.org

Do a search under Australia & check "marine". After the page comes up check "show all records" at the top...............you'll get a complete fish list. You'll have a huge list of fish to choose from. Find what you like then come back here with your list & people can help with care, compatability, availability, ect.

As far a hardy anthias, Bartletts, & Lyretails are your best bet.

the laboutei is a nice choice i like them alot here is a couple pics of min that i had

wrasseguy2 - those pics are awesome. Can the Labouti be kept in a small harem? And will a Labouti be aggressive towards my Lineatus? Thanks for all your help. The more I research wrasses, the more I like them. They are amazing fish for sure.

yes they can but i don't see females that often of laboutei but if you can find some that would be good..should be fine with the lineatus though mine was a little aggressive but not to my lineatus just smaller fairy and flasher wrasses but it was nothing too bad...socially acclimating them will help

Sweet. Appreciate the tip. I could easily have a Naso and nothing but wrasses. So many cool wrasses - laboutei, lineatus, carpenter's, filamented, mystery, ornate, rubrimarginatus, McCosker's, Aussie Scott's, rhomboidalis, Exquisite, solorensis, and that's just the reef-safe ones. Not saying this is what I would do, but all of those species are very very cool.
