Help me growout my Clownfish eggs

Reef1589

Anemones for life
so right now im 0 - 3 out of the 3 clutches (i left the first one just go) ...

and on this 4th and they laid in a new spot... front and center of their S. Gig, on a small easy accessable rock, now the way my eggs have been hatching is 1 night half will hatch, 2nd night the other will hatch and whatsever left hatches on the third night..

this 3 night hatch process starts 7 days after they lay their eggs..

with them laying on this new smaller easy rock, i wanna take the rock out and put it in the hatching tank on the first night of the eggs hatching.. with that being said is there any special precautions i should take as to taking the rock out and putting it in a different tank? and where the Airstone should be in regards to the rock?

any feed back is greatly appreciated it..
thank you :)

I have heard mixed reports regarding leaving the rock in the tank for a multiple day hatch. Most of the eggs may foul if left in the tank to long.

Billsreef is correct about the airflow. Close enough to create a current for the eggs to move in, not to small of bubbles that can get stuck between the eggs.

Another big part is broodstock feeding. Constant feeding of the broodstock helps create stronger fry.

At what point are you loosing the fry, and what are your methods regarding what water you are using, parameters, etc.

Any information you have will help everyone give you more feedback so you can get some fry through meta.

i couldnt give you my parameters really other than

Temp of DT - 79.9/80.2 (ranges from that area)
Phos - 0.07
Alk - 9

i mostly go by eye... my S. Gigantea anemone and SPS all look happy.. so i assume my parameters are probably in check..

i use water from my DT in the growout tank and set the heater to 79 as well..

the 1 night i was actually able to collect babies... i caught 7... has 6 die... and 1 live till 2 days past metamorphis... where he then got stuck behind the heater and died.. (i will not longer suction cup the heater to the glass..)
most the other nights i havent been able to catch any babies as id shut my Display tank down for 2 hrs, no pumps, no lights, no return pumps... and the eggs wouldnt hatch.. thinking they'd hatch the next night, id turn everything back on go to bed, wake up and half the eggs would be gone

with this batch they are hatching on Christmas.. so ill be 100% free and ready to catch these babies.. but i shouldnt need to catch any as im gonna put the whole rock in the baby tank..
also with that being said... i didnt ask this before, should the eggs touch air ever?.. moving it to 1 tank to the other it'd be in the air for maybe 2 seconds... but ya..

sorry it took so long to reply just been caught up with work.. but im off now for the next 5 days :)

I am trying to get my clowns to spawn is there a set of water parameters that works best for that or is it just they are ready when they are ready?

Reef1589 do not let the eggs hit the air. If you can put a container inside the display tank then put the rock in that container with it filled with water and transfer it to the fry tank. I too have lost my first two batches due to my stupidity and now I tired putting a tile down were they were laying their eggs at and now the nem ended up moving so now the female got stressed out and no eggs have been laid in two weeks.

Well in my eyes..i had a very successful Hatch.. i left the lights on and forced them to hatch on Night 8 .. instead of half hatching on night 7, had probably 90% of all the eggs hatch ... only downfall was apparently somewhere within the past week my rotifers all crashed... so i had a low roti count and by the 2nd morning they were all dead.. :(

yesturday i ordered more roti's and they are already starting to clean off that same rock in the same spot again, so they should be laying soon, and i should be ready to go.. and more prepared this time :)

i switched to a ten gallon round tote from walmart so the fry can swim in a circle and not hit their head in the corners works good for me

rgreene do you have a picture of this round tote from walmart I have never seen round totes st Walmart only square ones..
