Help me with my QT plan

I just purchased the following fish that I will be getting tomorrow morning:

2 clownfish
1 dragonface pipefish
1 mandarin goby
1 divided leopard wrasse
1 saddle valentini pufferfish
1 diamond goby
1 cleaner wrasse

I know that the mandarin and puffer are not good with copper so I am going to try not to use copper and I'm going to try to do the tank transfer method. I have a 20 gallon tank and a 5 gallon tank that I have free at the moment. I set the 20 gallon up last night.

What is your best recommendation for treating these fish and for how long?

Also can I use the 20 gallon tank for all these? And can I use the 20 gallon then transfer to the 5 gallon and then really quickly clean the 20 gallon and transfer them back?

Thanks

you're planning on setting up a quarantine setup the day before getting a load of fish?
tt is normally done to treat for ich so unless they are showing evidence i wouldnt bother using that method.
how long has the DT been setup for?

I set the QT up last night using water from my DT and a filter that had been in the tank collecting bacteria. The DT has been up for 12 weeks but before that I had a 20 gallon tank that I had up for 5 months and I transferred everything into the larger tank. As a proof of the health of the current DT I have an anenome that is doing great and split happily and healthy.

Wrasse don't fare well with copper and a pipefish is very delicate and wouldn't treat with copper either. Where did you get these fish from? If the QT is up and established your going to have a tough time with the "expert only" leopard wrasse and pipefish

I ordered the fish from Bluezoo aquatics. 2 of the fish are coming from my local LFS. The tank is very well established and has pods all over the mandarin and pipefish. Okay I will not use copper pretty much at all then because I have a lot of sensitive fish. The tank has been up for 2 months fallow but previously it was a 20 gallon that was up for 5 months

It's not a matter of what is in the DT, but rather the logistics of running so many fish through QT at once. Some of those fish have special dietary needs, and some of them react poorly to medication (esp. copper). If a single fish comes in with velvet, for example, all of the others will be at risk, making treatment difficult.

Okay what I do have available is a 20 gallon tank, a 5 gallon tank, and several 5 gallon buckets. I have several heaters and several filters and air pumps I can utilize. Would it be better to divide some of the fish up into different places?

I would pick up another 20g or two asap. That way you can spread them out or do tank transfer if necessary.

Going forward don't do more than 2 at once. Last time I tried to do four at once, one came down with velvet and took out two of the others despite separating and treating them.

Hard to do tank transfer with a 20 gallon then moving all those fish into a 5 gallon, you need at least 2 20gallons cause the 5 gallon is to small and you have toxis ammonia build up in a 5 gallon with all those fish

Do so planning before just attempting a broken system or you going to rush it and end up putting your fish or dt at risk by not qt properly

I do tank transfer with 2 20gallons 2 complete setups I clean dry and set up for the method and I don't do more than 4 fish usally at a time maybe 5 small ones

Also lepoard wrasse need sand for sleep and they are super sensitive in qt I'm 0 for 3 and j have a pretty solid set up they just finiky fish

Also mandrin and pipefish eat pods and won't last in qt without live pods or food ..

Okay yikes hopefully I can get the wrasse through it then. I was planning on putting tupperware with sand in it for the leopard wrasse so it could sleep in it. I have amquel on hand to handle ammonia as well

I had 2 trays of sand, I used and dryer out in between in my qt hat seemed to work well also I hatched brine shrimp for all of them idk my last lepord made it to. Day 7 so idk why I have bad luck but

IMO prime or amquel is must for any qt due to the fact it works and is safe specially with hypo or tank transfer

Okay I will try the sand thing. I also do have live brine shimp that can be hatched from a bottle or something. I have plenty of amquel so I have that covered. Im just hoping I can get everything through it

ok no fish in the DT now then..
you said two fish are coming from LFS? which ones are they?can you leave them there why do you need to get them at the same time as the mail order?

Those are some tough fish individually let alone in a group all at once. FWIW a Mandarin and a leopard wrasse are one of the few fish I would consider going right to the DT.

I consider the risk of infecting the DT vs. QT success worth the risk, just my 2 cents.
