ok, some major advice is needed, and i posted this here so that i don't get abunch of 'well, then, don't have a mantis!!"
well, george was rearranging a smaller (2 lbs) rock that had my feather dusters on it... (I ordered phyto today, i probably cursed myself)
he decided the featherdusters were pesty and had to go...
i was outside when it happened, so couldn't stop it:mad:
my biggest duster got the worst of it, but still has its feathers, just a really small tube. the other big one has a detached tube (detached from the rock) and the smaller two are ok still (the baby ones are ok too, they were at the top of the rock.)
is there hope for these guys?
the phyto will be here wednesday or thereabouts.,....
advise?
i moved the rock so that its angled higher now, with the feathers and my 4 lps polyps out of his immediate reach....

I know it's been a while since you posted, but I didn't see your post until just now (I'm new to this forum!)

I don't know how you could possibly stop your mantis from eating what he wants to eat, aside from getting him his own tank. Feed the mantis more maybe?

But, about feather dusters.. they can and will rebuild their tubes if the worm itself is not damaged or stressed to death. I've had feathers up and leave their tubes because they don't like where I put them.. only to reappear somewhere else in the tank, in a new tube. So, don't give up on your dusters if you see the tube damaged or vacant.

he didn't eat them, just just tried to rearange them...
i am actually still just a lil worried because a few of them came out of their tubes for, 3 or 4 days... but are just now begining to re-build....
and they all lost their feathers....
now i have to find GOOD phytoplankton

I just got DT's and I'm thoroughly happy with it!
I'm also going to try Selcon for soaking my live and frozen foods in. I've heard great stuf about both these products.
