HELP my black ocellaris clown has weird blotches

I recently purchased a black ocellaris clown that looked completely fine. for the first week he seemed to swim about the tank, eat and act completely normal. Recently though, one of my damsels died for no apparent reason. Its body just showed some discoloration. At the same time one of my regular ocellaris clown started to avoid eating and spent most of its time just swimming against the current. I couldnt get the poor thing to eat so I ended up giving him to a more experienced friend of mine, he unfortunately died 3 days after. Soon after that my seemingly healthy black clown started rubbing against the sand bed and twitching. At night he spends most of his time near the surface and he seems to breathe faster than usual ( I know these are all bad signs) I checked the parameters of my water and the only abnormality were nitrates were at 32ppm. I did a water change and brought them down to 20ppm. Im wondering if my clown could have some sort of ammonia poisoning because the blotches are not spots but weird lightining bolt looking desings on his body. Its hard to tell what color they are because he's black and the blotches look slightly lighter than his color. Any guesses?? or suggestions?

Could be any number of diseases... but what you are describing sounds like it could be Brooklynella. Clownfish are very susceptible. Does his skin look like it's peeling or sloughing off? Post a pic if you can.

Thanks for the help. I went down to my local LFS and showed them a short video I recorded on my phone. The LFS owner immediately identified it as Oodinium. He recomended I used Microbe-Lift Herbal actives "Herbtana" he said it was reef safe and he'd had awesome results. I will say that just after adding the first dose, my fish showed less scratching and started to move freely around the tank. I really hope this works, so far its promising :)

I have never heard of Herbtana curing anything. The only effective cure for oodinium is copper in a hospital tank. There is nothing that will kill most parasites that is reef safe. If this is oodinium (velvet); all of your fish need to be treated. This is a classic example of why new fish need to be quarantined.

+1 Herbtana is an Ich "management tool" that will at best boost a fish's immune system to "weather the storm". But it will never completely eradicate the parasites (it's not designed to). Anyone using this product better buy stock in the company; because you will be using it forever. :lmao:

There is a lot of money to be made catering to people's natural instinct to take the easiest path.
