Help! My wife washed my filter socks with detergent

I take my filter socks in the shower and beat them off the wall. give it a shot! you would be amazed to see how much stuff flies off those things. I thought the smacking the wife joke was funny some people need to lighten up. "geez....no wonder humanity is such a mess..."

maybe i should just go buy a really big truck....(but somehow i doubt many would understand the reference...)

This thread is hilarious. And no, I would never smack my wife. Some people need to lighten up and have a good time.

For the record, I read a thread by Calfo a while back and he recommend washing filter socks with a "cup" of bleach and that is all. If you have followed him much you will know that when he says "cup" it is a very general term referring to a little here or a little there.:lol: I would just dump a little bleach in and call it good. This still made me nervous so I would do 2 more cycles with nothing but water to make sure the bleach got out.

Recently, my buddy explained to me how he just washes his filter socks with nothing but hot water. He said he does 3 cycles. The first is to get the detergent out of the washer and the last 2 are to rinse everything well. I was hesitant at first as I wondered if this would even get them clean. Sure enough, all it takes is 1 cycle with nothing but hot water and the socks come out as white as when they went in. I now wash my socks with 2 cycles of hot water and they are ready to go. No need to mess with the bleach.

Usually I'm all for the "smack em to cure stupidity" policy, but he did ask her to wash them, and not using detergent for aquarium things is something that most non-reefkeepers wouldn't think of.

And yes, I do realize it's a joke, just (imo) not a very good one.

Yes but it was just a silly joke and not only is it men here saying it but women. Relax, no one here is going back to smack their spouse. Its a reef board for one sake. The topic is washing a reef sock. So how does your wife wash yours?????????????

In any case, my tank is OK. No problem what so ever and all polyp extension are still there.
I still want to get lucky with my wife and smacking will not help ..
