My tank is starting to get over ran by this algae. Im trying to figure out what it is so I can try to eradicate it. I can't get a good picture of it but i will try to later on tonite. for now its an iphone pic.

i tried to pull it out but it grows back pretty quickly.

That is definitely Bryopsis, hard to get rid of. Can grow well in a clean or dirty tank. Some say higher Mg levels help it die off, live 1600 high.

omg just did a search on how to eradicate it... practically impossible. does anyone have any experiance at destroying these?

i've been reading like a mad man. seems i've been doing it all wrong. manual removal is totally bad, even with siphoning. So off to the LFS tomorrow to buy Kent Tech M. Boost the mg levels sky high and pray that this kills it. if not, looks like i'll be doing a refresh on my tank.

do Tech M and raise your mag to above 1600. Should have no effect on your coral but will slowly kill the bryosis. It will take a week or 2 to see result. I use tech m to raise and after a week, i kept the mag above 1800 using other mag solution cuz the tech m is one expensive @#@$. I kept the mag up high for 2 months. Work out well for me.

seems the tech m is what everyone used.. 30$ from drfosters for that tech m stuff. i wonder if the brs mg would work as well? i could mix a super concentrated batch and use that.

it is said that there is something in tech m that kills the broysis. I had to do this in my current tank. I only use Tech m to raise from 1300 to 1800. Use whatever left of tech m over the few days to keep it steady, and use brs mag solution to keep it up for 2 months is what i did.

Tech-M personal experiance here with it. Raise it slowly and the Mag will kill it off.

I did tech M before, works to killing the bryobsis at first but some seems to have builded resistance against it. What ultimately got rid of it for me was removing the rock and scrubbed it with a toothbrush dipped in H2O2. What H2O2 does is oxidizes (taking an electron) the algae, thus destroying the algae cell, it fairely safe becuase H2O2 then breaks down back into H2O and O2 gas it is fairely safe to use. The benefit to using compared to Tech M is its a whole lot damn cheaper and faster than dumbing gallons of tech M into your tank if you can remove the rock. If you do use Tech M it may affect your zooanthids if you keep mag elevated for too long.
