Help needed... Issues with drilling liverock!!!!

So this morning I'm having some issues.

I've decided to drill my liverock and make a nice pillar for my cube. I picked up a 5/8 masonry bit to drill the holes thinking 5/8 was good enough for 1/2 PVC. So I get home drill a hole and realize its to small. So I go back to homedepot and pick up the 3/4 bit....needless to say, I get home again, drill another hole and.... Not big enough again :(

So I take my 3rd trip back to homedepot and buy the 1" bit. Get it home and it's too big for my DeWALT drill. :(

What do I need to make this drill fit? Does anyone close to HB have a drill this would fit on that maybe I could borrow for a few hours?

Please help. I'm already tired of homedepot.

Rob- I took the first 2 bits back as I kept exchanging up so I can't do that. :(

Alex- your right. It is the inside diameter. The 1" should work Forsure I just need some sort of adaptor to make the bit fit on my drill

Well I just called HD and they said they don't make any adaptors and I just need to find a drill that accepts a 1/2" shank.

Hey jeremy I have a 6 foot piece of just over 1/2" acrylic rod you can have along with some thick acryclic squares for the base. The rod is much more flexible might make it easier for you to shove it in. Pm me if you want it.

Another option is to go to a store like Bed & Bath. Get some big plastic spoons with round handles and cut off the handles. You might even have a couple in the kitchen. Be careful though. For some reason it really makes the lady of the house mad.

hahahahahhahaha, I am picturing your kitchen drawer with a bunch of spoons and no handles and a very confused housewife

Thanks for all the options guys!

Cody-I may take you up on that. Keith's coming over to see if he can help me out in a few hours. If for some reasoon we cant get everything to work, I'll hit you up forsure. Thanks!

I used 7/8" drill bit to fit in 1/2" PVC. The drilled hole is slightly larger than the PVC total diameter.

I have some big drill bit you can borrow but you are so far away
Harbor freight have 1" thick and very long drill set cheap !

Yeah......you are going way too big.

Go to a plastic shop and buy acrylic rod.

I used 1/2" acrylic rod in that 3,500g build and have rockwork 4' tall supported only by acrylic rod and some epoxy to tighten the holes up and reduce wiggle room. You could get away with 3/8" or 1/4" inch acrylic in a normal size tank.

The 1" bit you bought is for a huge impact driver. You will burn out a regular drill using bits like that...

The one from harbor freight is not for impact drill an it works well
I use 3/4" thick PVC

Well the madness is over! Big ups to Keith (Hawaiian_Boi) for cruising over and helping me today!

I did end up going back to HD and bought a (for the 2nd time today... ) 3/4" bit.

With Keith's help, it came out really cool looking. Once the tank clears i'll take some pics and post them up. Too bad i forgot to take a before pic :(
