actually mel the drilled area would be fine unless it goes straight into a turn. Almost everytime I go to someones house for a clogged drain its where the pipe turns

Yea, I was agreeing with your point about larger drains being ideal for partly that reason. I've seen one get stuck in a 1" straight run and will definately believe elbows catch 'em too.
