Help! Purple Tang has ich

Well my tank has been running for 5 months and everything was doing good. Last night I noticed a few little spots on my purple tang. This morning a bunch more. This sucks! Stock list include: purple tang, 2 yellow tang, yellow belly tang, anthias, 6 line wrasse, 2 clowns and a blue chromis. I also have a few pieces of coral: branching hammer, zoos, leather and a sea whip.
I'm limited to space so I don't have a quarantine tank to put him in.
What the best way to go about handling this?

Did a what change yesterday. I feed with spectrum with garlic. I think I can fit a 10 gallon aquarium under my stand. Think I might pull him out and put him in a 10 gallon QT.
Will it be enough just pulling him out and treating him or will I have to do all fish? No other fish show signs of ich.

Sorry but you can't treat one fish for ich as his fellow tankmate most likely has it too even if you don't see it. Got to treat all and leave tank fallow for 8-10 weeks if you want to get rid of ich.

Sadly, if one fish has symptoms they all need treatment and the display will need to be fishless for 8-10 weeks to ensure ich in the display has died off. Garlic is not a cure, they will need treatment with hyposalinity or copper (your lack of space would rule out tank transfer method). Check out the stickies in the fish disease and treatment forum and decide what course of action you feel most comfortable with. Good luck

Stress doesn't cause ich. Only ich causes ich and its either in your tank or it isn't. If you quarantine every new fish, as every decent book on our hobby suggests, you'll never have to worry about it in your DT. If ich is in your tank; sooner or later, it will win. Garlic, vitamins, foods, etc will not cure ich. Without a QT/HT; you don't have any options. IMO & IME; a QT/HT is a necessity, not just something nice to have. Craigslist is a good source and even Brute containers work.

I didn't say garlic are a cure and that the stress that cause ich. Garlic help to be healthy and if you have ich in your system and a fish get stress, it appear. You can have ich in your tank without problem if you fish are not stress and are healthy. I know a guy that dose is tank so don't do any water change so when he see is blue hyppo with a couple of spot he do a water change and all come back to normal. I have another friend that have ich in her tank with no problem too. My kole tang got ich after a while and I try to treat my fish and the tang die because he was even more stress and stop to eat.

Studies are showing that garlic leads to problematic issues such as fatty deposits in the fish, like around the liver. Garlic, IMO, is a waste of money and will do more harm than good.

As far as stress goes, it is nearly impossible to keep any tank free of stress. Doing a water change when ich is noticed isn't doing anything against the actual parasites. Myself, and quite a few people here on RC will agree that living with ich is a gamble. Not really a question of if the ich will win, but when it will.

Hi there. I've had ich On the number of Occasions spread over 40 years and have tried many different Remedies like medication, Rising temperature, UVs ,lowering Your Sg ,garlic, Etc and in my own personal experience was to keep feeding them like pigs and it builds and They Immune system and make some stronger to fire the Parasite, It's what worked for me good luck

You have quite a collection of fish. I may have missed the size of the tank, but what size is this tank? Only hint I saw was that you may be able to fit a 10g under the tank???

Why tell someone with an ich problem to feed with garlic if it wasn't intended to help him.? Garlic does nothing to fight ich infestations.

I know a guy who smokes 3 packs of a cigarettes a day and seems in perfect health too.

The tang probably died from the "stress" of having ich in its gills for a long time. Short-term stress does not kill fish.

If ich is in your tank, sooner or later it will win. Hang around the disease forum for a while; folks who thought just a "little ich" was manageable and then the ich population explodes. It almost always will and they are in panic mode. I had to tear down a big tank years ago to eradicate ich years ago; then I started listening to the folks who really know this hobby and quarantined all new fish. If everyone did this, turnover in our hobby would be much lower (IMO) and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Man a lot of bad advice in this thread....a lot of coments from very unqualified self experts....how come we have a sick fish forum here on rc and we still get these questions to pop up a million and one times with the same results of bad advice like ohh just do a water change or feed them some garlic lol .......errrrnt wrong ....treat the issue with the proper treatment or don't treat it at all.......hypo...copper...and or with caution chloroquine phosphate as a lot of information about this is still being brought to the for front on uses with fish diseases.....

What do you want him to do if he can't do nothing of that... Sell the fish and start new? Don't try nothing and lets them die? lol
I have qt and will never try what my friends do but they never lost a fish because of that...

Well, you're essentially telling him to do nothing in that what you're suggesting won't help.

If your friends don't qt and haven't had a problem, they're very lucky but the odds are against them long-term.

Ich is disgusting and letting fish die from it through neglect is cruel. This is an expensive hobby and it takes a lot of work to maintain healthy tanks. Why would someone take the risk of not treating for Ich? Purple tangs are fairly expensive, beautiful fish. Hypo QT is minimal work, little to no expense and letting the tank remain fallow for 11 or 12 weeks is no inconvenience at all. I don't see the downside...
